Money troubles: Iran seeks return of $216m deposited in local bank!

why should we donate 250 mil to u each year ? o_O

there is enough hospitals here in need of that money , let alone iraqi and syrian hospitals which are all higher priorities .

iran exports 1000 MW of electricity to pakistan , due to humanitarian reasons we won't stop and cut the line , but seriously ? what DAFUQ ....

His post doesn't make any sense to be honest. I don't know why he wrote what he wrote. It confused me too but I read it after you had already replied lol

. . .
As per financial sanctions, any bank found involved in transacting with Iranian residents or corporations would have to face a freeze/disbandment or a fine with the money being confiscated frozen. Both Iranians and KASB's owners (Also Shia) took a big risk on each other. The USD deposits of KASB would have been frozen by now. Iran would not get the money back unless sanctions lifted and KASB would lose all of its international banking operations resulting in it being dissolved or merged into another bank...

1.This is more of a political test for Pakistan. She cannot afford an unhappy Iran with whom her relations run deep into history including contemporary period. Same can be said of Iran who will not like to disrupt friendly relations with her eastern neighbor.

2. Re- USA question, firstly how far are these sanctions justified? Both Iran and Pakistan must find a way out.How did India get oil from Iran? There are other nations - but not as much entangled with USA as Pakistan is. I suppose even smart bankers/finance people can suggest a way around.

This is something Pakistan owes to Iran but could not repay as sanctions were imposed on Iran. I think that its unfair on part of US to impose sanctions which affects prior commitments. India has obtained certain waivers and also doing trades with Iran in rupees. So there are possibilities which both Iran and Pakistan should look at.

Thats the money deposited in a private bank by Iran, Pakistan govt should ask Iran why did they deposit such a huge amount in a tiny private bank, was that money used to sponsor terrorism in Pakistan and is that the reason State bank put curbs on that bank...Iran can go screw themselves and I think at some point Pakistan will have tell Iran to bug off or get bitten.

Pakistan can afford to not only unhappy but a crying widowed Iran, I dont think Pakistan gives damn about Iran, Pakistan's interests in Iran can be counted as zero.

This delay in payment came under discussion in the meeting and it was suggested that Iran could buy rice, sugar and wheat from Pakistan instead of seeking cash payment.

rice, sugar or wheat shortage coming up very soon if Iran agrees.....

here's how it works, the government buys huge amount of sugar, rice or wheat from big enterprises (which btw are all owned by ahem ahem ;) or ahem ahem's friends ahem ahem) at a price significantly higher than market and then supply this to Iran. Easy money.

Did any one else spot this corruption/business opportunity ?

IMHO time is ripe for pakistan to choose its elder bro- it has to be either CHina or the US.
FOr the short term , the US will appear as a better power, but i suppose CHina will be a better guiding figure. Not only will the nation have a neutral stance to dealing with countries the US perceives as foes, it will also enable the country to build a long term investment and growth road map. Maybe years later when the pak economy is better and is perceived as a valued contributor to global trade, will US be more humble in its appraoch.
These are m 2 cents.
