PESHAWAR: The Security Forces have killed 60 militants during the last 24 hours operation in Mohmand Agency. The FC press release issued here Tuesday night said that in the ongoing operation in Mohmand Agency, the Frontier Corps troops advanced and secured Road Darwazgai Lakaro-Mamad Gatt.

In the process, militants strongholds of Habibzai and Mulakhel were destroyed. In this operation, sixty hardcore militants (22 yesterday and 38 today) have been killed in the last twenty-four hours.

Important militant commanders named Umar Khitab, Qari Mumtaz, Haroon Rashid, Bilal, Yaqub, Yar Said, Yusuf and Hamza were killed.

Also militant strongholds of Krair and Chingal were decisively engaged. It said that there are obvious signs of weakness and desperations in the rank and file of militants, both local and foreign, who were now on the run.

Somebody was talking about the leniency being shown by the Army in these operations. i wish same could be done in Swat.

22 militants among 24 killed in Mohmand blitz

GHALLANAI: Twenty-two militants, including several local commanders, and two civilians were killed and several others sustained injuries as fighter planes and gunship helicopters blitzed different areas of Pandyalai and Lakaro Tehsils of the troubled Mohmand Agency on Tuesday. A press release of the Frontier Corps, however, claimed killing 60 militants in the ongoing operation besides securing a number of militant-held areas.

Sources said fighter planes and gunship helicopters heavily bombed a seminary, Jamia Madrassa Shuhada-e-Dwezai, in Shata Kandao area of Pandyalai Tehsil, leaving 12 militants dead and several others injured.

Similarly, 10 more militants and two civilians were killed and 12 others sustained injuries when jet planes and gunship helicopters pounded suspected hideouts of insurgents in Qandaro area of Lakaro Tehsil and Danishkol and Dwezai areas of Pandyalai Tehsil.

The two civilians, who were killed in the airstrikes, were identified as Saddam and Taqsimullah Jan of Danishkol, while the names of 12 wounded persons could not be ascertained. The injured were rushed to Peshawar hospitals.

The sources added that security forces also hit positions of militants in Mulakhel and Karair areas in Safi. However, there was no word on casualties. Meanwhile, security forces, backed by tanks and gunship helicopters, continued their advance and reached Lakaro Tehsil checkpoint.

On way to the check-post, security forces bulldozed 24 houses and torched 50 others on roadsides in Sandokhel, Amrai Koroona, Kamalkhel Koroona and Habibzai areas. It may be mentioned here that earlier security forces had destroyed 48 houses of the suspected militants.

The sources said that Frontier Corps Inspector General Major General Tariq Khan paid a surprise visit to the troubled tribal agency, where he was briefed on the ongoing operation. The visit was kept secret from the media due to volatile security situation in the area.

Meanwhile, a press release of the paramilitary Frontier Corps said that troops advanced and secured Darwazgai-Lakrao-Mamad Gatt Road. In the process, militant strongholds of Habibzai and Mulakhel were destroyed.

It added that 60 hardcore militants, including several commanders identified as Umar Khitab, Qari Mumtaz, Haroon Rashid, Bilal, Yaqub, Yar Said, Yusuf and Hamza, had been killed in the two-day operation. Also militant strongholds of Karair and Chingal were targeted.

AFP Adds: A paramilitary official claimed that 60 militants had been killed Mohmand in the Agency during the last 24 hours.

“In this operation, 60 hardcore militants were killed during the last 24 hours, including major militant commanders,” the official told AFP. “Thirty-eight militants were killed today (Tuesday) and 22 yesterday (Monday),” he said. Another paramilitary official said 40 militants were killed on Tuesday, when war planes, helicopter gunships and ground artillery hammered the offensive.

TTP Mohmand chief among 15 killed

GHALLANAI: Several militants, including top commanders of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Mohmand chapter, were killed on Wednesday, as military intensified its operation against combatants in Mohmand Agency.

Sources said security forces targeted the hideouts of the militants in Lakaro and Pindyali Tehsils and elsewhere in the tribal agency with gunship helicopters, killing several militants and destroying their hideouts.

The sources said the house of Omar Kahlid, TTP Mohmand Agency chief, was also destroyed in the aerial blitz.

The sources said over 15 militants, including some important commanders, perished in the attack, while about 40 shops in Qayyumabad and Askarabad bazaars on Peshawar-Bajaur Road and 33 houses were also destroyed. The sources added that security forces occupied the militant hideout after killing six militants in Ghaziabad area.

Fierce fighting and shelling was also reported in Kamardin, Amarai Kor, Karair, Chingai, Palosai and Habibzai areas. Unconfirmed reports said Omar Khalid and a number of his fighters were staying in a hideout on the hilltop near Haji Sahib Tarangzai shrine when security forces attacked the place with heavy weapons in the evening.

According to the reports, a fierce gunbattle took place between security forces and insurgents in which Omar Khalid and TTP Halimzai tehsil Thief Wajihullah were reportedly killed and several others, including TTP Mohmand Naib Amir Qari Shakeel injured. However, neither security forces nor the Taliban confirmed the killing of Omar Khalid.

As the article states, the chief's killing is not confirmed yet. But close to a hundred militants dead in a three or so days, along with local commanders, is still pretty good going.

Definitely thumbs up for the military but i have to say the military has been lenient with dealing with these terrorists. We need to end this whole fiasco that is going on in FATA, these people have terrorized us and we have to defeat them if we want to live a peaceful and normal life. FC is not well trained and lacks the proper equipment to fight these terrorists.

Search operation intensifies in Mohmand Agency

PESHAWAR: The security forces have intensified the ongoing search operation in Mohmand Agency against the wanted militants on Wednesday, said sources.

According to sources, several wanted extremists were killed in Tehsil Pindyali and Safi of Mohmand Agency during the first phase of search operation launched by the security forces some days ago. However sources also informed that many wanted extremists were still at large.

“No inch of the land would be left unsearched in the newly intensified second phase of search operation against the militants until the establishment of the rite of the government, said a security personnel” and added that the second phase of operation was launched yesterday which has resulted in detention of many more wanted extremists.

GHALANAI, Jan 21: Umer Khalid, the chief of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in the Mohmand tribal region, was killed along with four other key commanders in a military operation in Lakaro area on Wednesday morning, a security official claimed.
He told Dawn that Umer Khalid was killed and his deputy Qari Shakeel injured when security forces, backed by artillery and helicopter gunships, pounded Taliban’s hideouts in the area.

He also claimed that a number of Taliban militants, including commanders, had been killed over the past few days.

However, a Taliban spokesman denied the report and said Umer Khalid was in a safe location.

“Our amir is alive and will address media personnel in a few days,” he said from an unspecified location.

“The death of commander Umer Khalid was a rumour spread by our enemies,” he added.

Umer Khalid (real name Abdul Wali) rose to prominent in July 2007 when he along with more than 200 armed men occupied the shrine of freedom fighter Haji Sahib Turangzai and named an adjacent mosque in Lakaro, about 35kms from Ghalanai and near the Afghan border, as Lal Masjid.

Meanwhile, security forces took control of the Ziarat marble mountain, a stronghold of the Taliban, after heavy clashes.

Officials said that militants, who had dug trenches and built bunkers near the mountain, offered stiff resistance to the advancing troops. They said that troops were consolidating their position after the militants fled the area.

The operation was carried out by the Frontier Constabulary, Mohmand Riffles and Khasadars.

Helicopter gunships and artillery bombed militants’ positions in Karer, Qandaharo and Khan Bahadar Korona areas. A tehsil building in Pandyali, which had been occupied by the militants, was also attacked.

Clouds of thick black smoke were billowing from the areas as shelling continued till late night.

This has happened with other commanders as well.... wer dont know if they are dead or not. Fazlullah is still alive and this was reported as well that he was dead.

The army operation has gained nothing. A large figurehead killed is always a boost in the war on terror. I dont understand why none of the major commanders or leaders of the taliban are not killed. Mangal bagh LeI was spared too even though a similar report stated he was dead. Amir of all tehreek e taliban, Mehsud died of plague (it is said but he is still alive later it is found out), over fazlullah and his aides we had conflicting reports.... What are the forces doing there accept causing civilian losses. The civilians in these regions are only angry as far as my reports are concerned. Army gained nothing in the operation. Here i come is also becoming pain in the ***. Not all the so called militants are militants and some happen to be civilians. What is going on?

killing 60 or 100 is not part of any solution. in the end we will have to talk to them. we are fighting ppl who are already willing to die. and there are more ppl coming in from afghanistan and other part of central asia. they are gettin foreign support. fighting with them means doin wat those foreign hands want us to do.
we bomb them. only few of them die while many houses get destroyed. a child who watchin his house goin up in ashes will grow up with anti army feeling and will one day join the enemy. lik everyone says on this forum 'enemy of my enemy is my friend'. we need to start thinkin for ourselves and not for US. once this war is over dont expect US to give us money for building those houses. remember when USSR left? its goin to be the same this time.
initially they said there are only 1500 of them. we have killed more than thousand and now they say there are 15000 of them. we will kill 15000 and they ll come to know that now there are 150000 of them.

It is cynical to gloat over the “capture” of Pakistani territory by the Army, or the killing of its citizens. You don’t “Crush” anything this way. You just spread more hatred against the Army, sapping its moral, and demolishing its combat capabilities.
