Mohammed Morsi: Egypt's ex-leader sentenced to death

Not smart. The fact that the MB won the election shows that for good or bad they have a strong support base amongst the Egyptian populace who will be alienated and in the future will form the core of any militant or non-militant opposition to Sisi. Sisi has witnessed the shameful end of men like Gaddafi, Saddam or even Mubarak. Surely he should have learnt a lesson from their individual declines.

Senior military leader exonerates Morsi from major fabricated case

Pro-Muslim Brotherhood TV broadcast leaked information regarding one of the major fabricated cases against the ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, Al-Masryoon reported on Friday.

The Egyptian coup government accuses the first ever democratically elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi of cooperating with the Palestinian Islamist Movement, Hamas in arranging his escape from the Egyptian Wadi Al-Natroon Prison during the January 25 revolution.

Senior MB leader and Mukameleen TV presenter, Hamza Zoba' said that the former Egyptian Chief of Staff Brigadier Sami Anan, who was one of the officials who ran the transitional period exonerated Morsi from the case of Wadi Al-Natroon.

The presenter describes the witness of Sami Anan when presenting leaks of President Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi, who was a defence minister that time.

Not just MB, they are desperately trying to demonize Hamas. Sadly, your media @azzo is also contributing to demonization of Hamas. I believe Salman wants to back slowly away from the Sisi regime or at least urge restraint.

terrible. people of egypt were never free since the days of the pharaohs. morsi was a rouse by the junta to deliberately bring him in to fail. egyptians/arabs are the most stupidest people in history. they want change but cannot manage change. may be it is true they need someone to treat them like donkeys with a massive size cane.
the junta has massive economic interests in a parallel economy. they were never going to give them up. entire egyptian force is a hollow paper tiger. they are engrossed in daily domestic affairs - do you think they can do their true job?
Where is sisi and his cronies trial for thousands they have disappeared and brutalised?
Pathetic country in overall sense which means nothing in the global sense of the world.

The people are 'stupid' because their governments, backed by the West don't allow them to participate in politics. The people of the middle east can only become enlightened when they're allowed to participate. They elect Morsi, that's a GIGANTIC step forwards toward democracy and enlightenment (Morsi's personal politics don't matter). That's people seeing that they have a say, and that their voice is heard, that they can CHANGE things without weapons.
Not a year later, there is another western puppet installed. So indeed, people become angry and start supporting armed groups. Talking about democracy, even in normal circumstances it takes many decades to become democratic. Let alone when the only election in decades is nipped in the bud a year after the people elect somebody.

Long story short: Arabs are kept stupid because of foreign interests. If Morsi was still president, the democratic process would still be underway. He would have to form coalitions, and disagree in public, and try to persuade the Egyptian population with his political views and plans. Instead he's getting whacked.. So Egypt just took 1 step forward, and 10 backward. All because of daddy Israel.

I don't even know what to say. An South African (Black) person barking and talking badly about Arabs. I don't think we have to mention the mutual history in this regard let alone the state of Sub-Saharan African states. You are a funny guy. Always showcasing your inferiority complexes and obsession about Arabs.

Buy some new hardware. Your current one is getting old and crashing.

The Egyptian judicial system is making a big mistake here. This is not the way forward. This will cause big divisions in Egyptian society.

The Egyptian regime and the MB must come to an agreement and forget the past and move forward otherwise there will always be big divisions in the Egyptian society. All parties should restrain themselves.

Some of the accusations are simply unrealistic and I doubt their validity.

I think this is a counterproductive measure. If Mubarak had received the death penalty and the former military junta it would make more sense.

The Arab League should urge both parties to work it out between them. A civil war in Egypt would be fatal.

Okay first of all I'm one of the biggest haters of Muslim Brotherhood but in my opinion this sentence will divide Egyptian society deeply. Death sentance for Morsi but Hosni Mobarek gets a slap on the wrist?

Ditto. I am the last person to support the MB but Morsi's execution viz a viz Mubaraks "slap on the wrist" as you put it aptly sets a dangerous precedent and will further alienate the Islamist's who dont necessarily have to be extremist (Annahda in Tunisia is a good example). I want a moderate like Sisi to rule Egypt but if he wants to stay in power then he has to be smart. Trying to use brute force to crush the opposition may work in the short run but as Gaddafi and co found out it doesnt work in the long run. The Islamist's will become martyrs and gain sympathy votes (or Bhutto votes as I call it) with the masses who may not necessarily have been inclined to vote for these Islamist parties in otherwise normal circumstances.

it is too late for that now they MB and their friends have already done their worse we would be fools to back down and give them room to reorganize themselves and strike again

Not just Morsi, but many other Egyptian MB officials, even the cleric Qaradawi. The funniest thing about this is they sentenced several Palestinians to death also.

Here they are:

Hassan Slamaah(19 years has been Israeli prison)
Raad Aatar(Hamas armed wing commander martyred in 2014 struggle)
Tayser Snimaah(Hamas armed wing commander killed in 2009)

..............

This clown regime thinks we care about their childness, we don't. But this move is clearly sending a message to Saudi Arabia and Arab world that there will be no Arab unity and that Assad regime will remain in power and Egypt will not support it's sponsors in any way in that regard.

Saudi arabia and the other nations who sponsor this regime need to get this regime under control quickly or we will lose our trust in Saudi Arabia and a civil war will break out in Egypt.

If Morsi is sentenced to death by the Mufti, it will be interpreted as a Zionist evil jew executing a Muslim leader. Don't be suprised if Sisi will be blown up soon after that. If he does it he better run away to Europe/US as soon as he can.
you can talk all you want all these empty threats we are hearing since 30 6 2013 means nothing

But is it worth the risk? I am talking about the tension it could create in Egypt. Would it not be better to sentence him to a long jail sentence instead along with Mubarak and his old guard? This way everyone could be happy more or less and start from a fresh?

I don't care about the MB, Morsi or any leader in Egypt. What I care about is Egypt as a country and the people regardless who rules.

We want to see progress, justice, peace and prosperity in Egypt and every other Arab state.

A civil war in Egypt would have a big impact for KSA as a neighbor and probably also impact Jordan. It would be a catastrophe.

Muslims Brotherhood would become radicalised, yes they have their Islamist beliefs but I don't think they believe in terrorism at least they didn't until their elected leader was removed. He should have been jailed, Sisi should have tried to split Muslim Brotherhood into smaller political parties and perhaps make some new ones to break their street power, seriously Egyptian Generals need to learn from our Generals on how to rule your country and break bigger political groups.

There are still three more steps until an execution can actually be carried out.

First, the result of the appeal must end in the same verdict, which rarely happens in cases where the death sentence was dished out.

Second, an executive branch of the judiciary has to approve the felony court's decision to carry out the execution, which is usually a formality if the defendant's appeal fails.

Third, the case is put to the Grand Mufti of Alazhar for approval. Usually this is the point where the majority of cases that get the past two steps get dropped to a life sentence.

Just of note is that of the thousand plus death sentences dished out in Egypt in the past two years, only around fifteen have actually been carried out, many of which were for ABM terrorists. Btw of the thousand or so sentences hundreds were for people tried in absentia, the full punishment by law has to be dished out, awaiting an appeal by the absent party.

As for Mubarak he was reconvicted for corruption charges and is awaiting the court of cessations verdict on an appeal filed by the general prosecutor to put Mubarak back in the felony courts dock on charges related to the killing of protesters, charges that had before to a conviction and acquittal. Mubarak himself is unimportant, spending his days in a hospital, his sons however are a threat to both the current admistration and Egypt as a whole. They were also convicted on corruption charges with their father.
