The developments in Cairo suggest, as corroborated by the reaction of Brotherhood, that Nobel Laureate and diplomat Mohammed ElBaradei could be the next president of Egypt. Minutes before military’s deadline, Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Gehad El-Haddad told the media that the military was trying to impose Mohammed ElBaradei as a unity figure. He confirmed that the Brotherhood's political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, rejected a meeting with ElBaradei and the head of the army General Sisi.
Who is ElBaradei and why would military attempt to install him to replace popularly elected president Morsi who was seen as a symbol of hope after the dictatorial regime of Hosni Mubarak? ElBaradei came to limelight when Iraq was accused by the US of possessing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and he as director general of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was tasked by the UN to inspect Iraqi nuclear arsenal. He reported to the UN that the documents purporting Iraq to be a rogue state with WMD were not authentic. He was widely respected for his integrity. He was awarded Nobel Peace Award in recognition of his services. Similarly, he did not tow the US line on Iran’s nuclear program.
ElBaradei joined his compatriots for democratic change in Egypt in 2009 and was a significant leader during the recent protests. He is an eye-sore for the U.S. government and supports some policies that do not support current U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. He has the distinction of calling for international criminal investigation of former Bush administration officials for their roles in planning the war on Iraq. If ElBaradei is indeed a probable replace of Morsi, this would suggest that the Obama administration is backing military’s so-called road map because Americans have been lobbying for him to become prime minister in Morsi government.

Egyptian military wants Mohammed ElBaradei as the next president

Americans are the biggest Damn HYPOCRITES in the whole wide World. The support dictators and army rule in third World countries and yet rant and rave about democracy at home.

Being Democratic does not mean you support democracy only when your guy wins.

.
More like that Punjabi proverb,"Kutti choran nal milli hue si".
Such things happen when the people responsible for the security of a state are in fact the traitors.

.
I would advise this thread be deleted as it only offers speculation and misinformation at a time when Egypt is in a sensitive situation.

What have the American have to do with the crisis in Egypt? The people of Egypt voted Morsi into power. Now they want him out, by whatever means. It would seem that they are the ones who are not sure what democracy means.

You don't have a clue what democracy is all about.

Majority of Egyptians voted for Muslim Brotherhood.

Now that MB is elected, they should finish their term.

Pakistanis elected PPP in power and even most Pakistanis wanted Asif Zardari nd PPP out , we still let them finish the term. That is how Democracy works.

Actually Sir, if you comprehend my post, I have said that the Egyptian people need to know better how democracy works, since they elected Morsi and they should allow him his term in office rather than asking for a premature exit.

My cluelessness about democracy or the infinite wisdom of the Pakistani people that you mention have nothing to do with my post. And you still have not explained your pointless rant against USA with regards to the topic of this thread, if you care to do that.

Why is it that everything has to be blamed elsewhere and not where it should be?

We have had 4 Martial laws (2 after losing half of Pakistan) before reaching this stage.

Americans support Morsi. They just want a stable and friendly government. They don't care about ideologies so please refrain from stating conspiracy theories. How many countries are there in your world map? stop blaming America for every single thing happens in the world.

I don't know much about him, but in one interview he stated " you can't eat Sharia", and forever I will love him for this statement!:smitten:

So you, judge politicians on "what they say?"

IAEA under ElBaradei actually opposed the Iraq war in 2003. They refused to corroborate with US/CIA that Iraq was building WMDs.

Of Course he did.
