You have no idea of how much importance the city of Lahore is for Sikhs for cultural, historic and religious reasons plus although i respect Shastri he made a big blunder after Nehru of letting it fall into the hands of Muslims which we had defended from Muslim invaders for centuries plus don't you think those 93000 POW would have been really good bargaining chip in exchange for Pakistan administered Kashmir and we could have solved another Nehrus blunder of taking the matters to UN before entire kingdom of Kashmir was liberated not only would we have been able to get rid of the mess which continues to bleed us till date but through North Western region of Kashmir would have given us land border with Afghanistan thereby direct access to Central Asia

'Altering, Engineering etc. are seriously flawed strategies, those things ended with World War 2 and Hitler (BJP is still not out of it though).1971- you think 'winning' ended the affair? We had to get recognition for the new country and all kinds of concessions to get that including giving the POWs to look good. All 'big' objectives of that war were achieved, so trying to say 'we should have got this and that more is ridicoulous. You won the world cup, everything else is irrelevant.

First of all Simla agreement through which we handed pak all its POW was signed months after the war ended by which time many country including US had recognized Bangladesh and secondly why did we bothered about getting recognition for Bangladesh our objective was to divide Pakistan After that whatever happened to those Bangladeshis whether they live, recognized or drowned inside of BoB we shouldn't have bothered at all in fact it served our purpose if BD haven't got recognized by major countries that would meant they have to increasingly rely on us in international arena giving us more stronger control over Bangladesh administration and save us the trouble of wasting millions to fund their local political parties/leaders to take care of our national interest over there
I agree during their reign of power at center bjp made many blunders relating to national integrity and security but just try to look it from a neutral perspective and you'll see congress made even worse
