Modi's on the move again: France, Germany, Canada visits from April 9-16

Come On MODI JI

Please use all your charms and persuasive skills :smitten:
and GET THE RAFALE deal done

It won't require him to visit France for just that deal.

There are a slew of agreements that many French companies have expressed to invest in India. That's what he is going to iron out.

Parikkar is not Modi's rubber stamp. He has full authority to clear defence with the same abilities that the PM will clear. That's why he got pulled from Goa as there is almost no one of his caliber to fit that profile.

The visit to Germany is another good opportunity to consolidate our relations and seek better investment from German firms.

What I as an Indian hope for is better accreditation of scientific, engineering and technical curriculum that is being followed in Germany's leading universities.

Indian technical and engineering universities should get accredited from German universities particularly in research, innovation and open-ended thinking, which our colleges, professors and teachers restrict.

As for Canada, we should increase our footprint in the Americas as well.

US is sorted out, but Canada, Mexico and and the Caribbeans are due. Canada being a major friendly country should be brought on board. Stephen Harper has been a good friend of India in all ways he can. That must be reciprocated.

@Tshering22

The RAFALE deal has become unduly complex and confusing

It will require the HIGHEST Intervention on the French side to clear it

And for that to happen PM's visit is a must

Perhaps you are NOT aware ; the Scorpene deal finally happened after MMS 's visit

In High profile big deals the PM /President has to SELL the deal to his people

AND project it as win win for both sides

Modi will have to tell the French that 20 BILLION USD is a huge SUM

And he must have a LOT of goodies to show for it

Coming to the German and Canadian Visits these are just
FOLLOW up visits in order to get the "MAKE in India " Campaign move forward and succeed
by getting manufacturing investments from these countries

But make NO mistake
The highlight is the Rafale deal

It is make or break for the Rafale deal now ; We are ENTERING the SLOG Overs :-)

SOmetimes Negotiations are STUCK up in BIG and high profile deals

Bureaucrats and ministers dont want to bend or compromise even slightly for FEAR
of being victimised ; maligned

That time the POLITICAL executive has to step in using his authority

The previous examples are
1 Bush - MMS in nuclear deal ;
2 Modi -- Obama again in Nuclear deal
3 Putin - Vajpayee for Nuclear submarine and Vikramaditya
4 Boris Yeltsin -- Narasimha Rao for CLEARING of the accumulated
HISTORICAL India Russian DEBT
5 MMS -- Chirac for Scorpene deal

6 Indira Gandhi -- Brezhnev in 1971 Indo Soviet Treaty for 1971 war

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be embarking on an official trip to France, Germany and Canada from April 9-16. This will be his first visit to these countries since taking over office in May last year.

Indian Prime Minister Modi to visit France mid-April
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit France on 9-12 April as part of a tour that will also take him to Germany and Canada, officials in Delhi announced on Wednesday. The much-postponed sale of Rafale jet fighters to India is expected to be discussed in Paris.

Modi will meet President François Hollande during a visit that will begin on the evening of 9 April.

"He will interact with different sections of French society as well as leadership there," Indian external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told reporters in Delhi on Wednesday.

He will then go on to Germany, where he will meet Chancellor Angela Merkel and open the biggest trade fair in the world, Hannover Messe.

The trip, which will also take Modi to Canada, home to more than a million people of Indian origin, is part of the PM's Make in India initiative, which aims to attract foreign investors to the country.

Discussions are expected to be held on the long-drawn-out negotiations of the sale of Rafale jet fighters by French company Dassault to India's air force.

Civil nuclear power could also be raised, in the light of French nuclear giant Areva's 2009 offer to supply to EPR reactors with a possible follow-up building capacity to 10,000 megawatts.

Dassault Aviation and Thales handed two modernised Mirage 2000 fighters over to Indian officials at a ceremony in the south of France attended by Indian ambassador Arun K Singh.

A further 49 fighters will be revamped in India as part of a contract worth 1.4 billion euros, according to a document quoted by La Tribune newspaper.

"Rafale is the next logical step," Dassault CEO Eric Trappier declared.

Canada has a decent Indian population, is there a mini-MSG on the cards?

Anyway, I am sure we can expect more attacks on 'secular' religions while PM is abroad.

Finally, shoo-man thread.

Three-nation visit to focus on economic agenda, job creation: Modi
"My France, Germany and Canada visit is centred around supporting India's economic agenda and creating jobs for our youth. Will discuss strengthening India-France economic co-operation and visit some high-tech industrial units outside Paris. In Germany, Chancellor Merkel and I will jointly inaugurate Hannover Messe where India is a partner country. Looking forward to enhancing ties with Canada and interacting with leaders, captains of industry and diaspora in Canada," he tweeted.

"I am honouring long standing invitations from three of our most important partners, who have strong friendships with India."

On France, where he goes on the first leg, Modi said that he would "seek greater French involvement in our Make in India Programme, including in the defence manufacturing sector".
Terming France "one of our most important strategic partners", he said it has stood with India at difficult moments, noting its "understanding and support" after the Pokhran nuclear tests in 1998 and was also then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's first destination for a bilateral visit thereafter.

He noted the strong cooperation in the defence sector, which "currently includes construction of six advanced submarines in India" as well as in space and in civil nuclear energy co-operation.
There are "huge opportunities for collaboration in the manufacturing and infrastructure with France, including in the railways sector", he said.

"I also look forward to discussing ways in which we can deepen our security cooperation include counter-terrorism as well as space, cyber and maritime security".

He said he would visit some of the highly-developed high technology industries outside Paris and as also pay respect at the World War I memorial at Neuve Chapelle, "especially to honour, in the centenary year of the tragic war, the supreme sacrifice of thousands of Indian soldiers, who fought valiantly during World War I".

In Germany, where he will be From April 12-14, Modi said the main focus would be to participate in the Hannover Industrial Trade Fair, which will be inaugurated jointly by him and German Chancellor Angela Merkel April 12.

"India is the partner country at the Hannover Trade Fair this year. This gives India a special place in the trade fair and a high visibility to our business sector," he said, adding Indian participation "will be on an unprecedented scale".

"I intent to use my visit to substantially raise the level of German investments in India, especially in the manufacturing sector, skill development and clean energy," he said, adding he will hold extensive talks with Merkel both in Hannover and in Berlin.

One key issue would be German support in "expanding our exports to European Union and attracting higher level investments from there", he said.

In Canada, Modi said he will be hosted by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who has "played a key role in transforming India-Canada relations".

"Soon after Independence, Canada was one of our most important developing partners. Today, it has the potential to re-emerge as one of the key economic partners."

"We look forward to resuming our civil nuclear energy cooperation with Canada, especially for sourcing uranium fuel for our nuclear power plants," he said.

"Whichever area of national priority we think of, Canada can be an important partner - energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, education, skill, research, food security, etc," Modi said.
He said the million-strong Indian community in Canada represents India's rich diversity and is making impressive contribution in all fields there.

"I look forward to my official meetings in Ottawa, interacting with the business leaders in Toronto and reaching out to the Indian community in Toronto and Vancouver."
