Modified versions of Nag missile carrier to be tested soon

Thanks for replies guys, But as you may realized my knowledge on indian defence industry details is a little limited since i am more specialized and focused in Turkish defence industry. So i know i sound like a total noob to you guys :D

I also never knew that turkey had such a capable def.industry, and you arent a noob to us.

Mi-17s cannot be sent to that altitude. The reason why Mils didn't fare well in Kargil was because of the high ceiling of combat needed. The whole reason for LCH to develop was high altitudes mate.

Possible man, possible. But high altitude is the prime concerns.

Army has already ordered 114 of it. The IA and IAF need to grow up and allow a first time product to evolve in batches. They're like 5 yr olds.

IMO to ensure confirmed inductions, IAF and IA should be banned for the next 10 years to acquire any foreign gunships other than the current orders
.

I has the impression that mi 17 has 6000 m celling.
Indian army has unwillingly orderd it. IAF seems to be happy with it
For the bold part. Your point of view is good for India's future in defence industry. But is it too much to ask for army to have best equipments when they are ready to lie down their life with it ? Think not. It's a good helo no doubt. But that lesser 20/25 km speed can be hazardous at that height. There is nice comparison in one of the threads. May be attack helo LCH . I see this only reason why India by apache wildcat 3. Agree to disagree :)

Then I got a question in return, what are the chances that Turkish defence industry offer us weapons and techs. You have developed helicopter launched ATGMs as well, just like the Roketsan Cirit laser guided rockets and especially the latter would be a useful addition to our helicopters. So will Turkey enter the Indian defence market too or is the political relation to Pakistan an issue?
Also are the quad launchers the maximum capacity for Cirit, or will bigger pods be developed?

You are right about Dhruvs and LCH high altitude capability, but the Mi 17 was actually used in Kargil, because it had (at least) better capability in this area than the Mi 35s. They provided some fire support with their rocket pods, so it wasn't bad but with such high battle fields, we obviously needed something even better.

The Hindu : States / Andhra Pradesh : Another round of Nag trials in June-July

With Rajasthan deserts providing one of the worst testing environments, yet another round of trials, perhaps the last, will be conducted in June-July 2012 of the anti-tank Nag missile and more importantly its specially designed carrier, NAMICA.

Although the third generation missile with “top attack and fire and forget” capabilities was expected to be inducted last year after it was tested for various ranges in July 2010, it was delayed with the Army seeking modifications in NAMICA. Each NAMICA can carry 12 missiles, eight of them in ready-to-fire mode.

“We are hoping for initial induction after the trials. The aim of the tests is to prove the launch system as well as the missile to the requisite capability,” Avinash Chander, Chief Controller (Missiles and Strategic Systems), Defence Research and Development Organisation, told The Hindu.

The partially amphibious NAMICA had been totally modified and two separate systems produced by Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Electronics Limited would be tested in the trials.

Nag missile, which has a range of four km, would be tested for its full range, two km and a minimum of 500 metres. This time DRDO scientists would demonstrate the lock-on-before launch capability of the missile for a four-km range with an upgraded imaging infrared seeker.

In lock-on-before-launch mode, the missile keeps acquiring the image of the target every 30 milliseconds right from the launch till the impact on target.

The missile would be fired to destroy both moving and stationary targets during the trials.

The shorter the range, the more difficult it would be for the missile to attack a moving target.

Mr. Chander said there was no other anti-tank missile in the world with a lock-on-before launch system for a four-km range.

The U.S. Javelin and the Israeli Spike had lock-on-before launch systems but the range was only 2.5 km.

He said it was also being planned to have the lock-on-before-launch capability for a seven-km range of the missile.

In recent field trials, the lock-on-after-launch capability of the Helina missile (airborne version of Nag) was proved.

There was some problem with the actuators and these were being rectified, Mr. Chander said.
