i have no automatic enmity towards the american people as such, as many of them are very critical of their establishment and economic/political structure, like via the "occupy" movement.

but you are right there is greater love for certain unrequired elements of usa mass culture or even trashy modern british culture.

for example, in many indian tv ads or youtube ads, you will see a american-style or british-style gathering of friends to watch sports on tv... these may be ads for chips or for a tv brand and what they will be watching on tv in the ad will be football or kirket... the idea they propagate is that males should and must be interested in sport, especially trashy team sports, and that will be the sign of their male-ness... a larger effect of this cultural borrowing was the kirket ipl events, which gave way to football, then to hockey and now to kabbadi.

now, since the 60's, the american and british youth were increasingly forced through government-tolerated media and schooling/colleging to become removed from local and global problems and to just toe the establishment line and never never to look the way of socialism/communism.

this has largely affected indian youth too, through such wrong cultural adoptions... where in the 50's, 60's and 70's, the indian youth saw hope and future in socialism, they now largely have walked the path of reactionary ideologies ( all communities )... this is especially so in the last 15 years and amplified more recently.

there is also lot of fakery in modern urban indian youth in terms of language and lifestyle... they use more often the supposed american swear words and are aggressive, rude and impatient... they while away their time in pubs and discos, drinking alcohol, when they could have been sitting in calcutta-style adda's talking politics over tea.

i find much of the urban younger lot of females also aggressive ( which is unfeminine really ) and rude, and also quick to shout "pervert" and "creep" and "stalker", if a gentleman should so much cast a admiring glance at their nature-given female form... and they take offense whilst continuing to be in company of their uncouth and rude male friends.

oh, yes... i don't deny that there are youth here who are sensitive, responsible and thoughtful, and some of them jump into activism in progressive groups like loksatta or aap or the socialist groups... there is hope yet.

You do raise some pertinent points. I have not studied political science deeply but socialism does have its merit but must be adapted to Indian sensibilities and its constraints loosened.

If you look at most developed countries today then they are almost socialist in their policies like welfare and social security at the same time retaining their capitalistic core.

Regarding the Americanization of Indian youth in form of modern recreational activities like pubs, team sports and increased adoption of american F words, rise of ultra-feminism, casual sex in cities etc my view is ambiguous. It does seem an affront to my natural instincts which would like nothing better than a quite walk in the park, chatting at Cal - Adda's at Park Street or Dalhousie over every topic under the sun, I have equally learned to enjoy sharing a drink and smoke with a girl at my Bandra Flat, having one/two-month relationships and cheering Chelsea or Manchester United at a Sports Bar at Gurgaon.

I have relatives at my native place in Jharkhand who are ultra-nationalists BJP Bhaks and colleagues in Delhi who are AAP members and friends in Mumbai who don't know who is current CM of Mahrashtra (really!!!)

My point is we are powerless against the cultural zeitgeist and it is better to swim with the tide and rather than against it. This may make a lot of things easier to digest.

I know I am way off-topic but it is a unsolicited though well intentioned advised given through hard-earned experience.

I started my Career with HCL in Noida.It is an Indian company. Worked there for 2 yrs. Have not noticed any such thing which you are saying here. Yes they do celebrate Diwali,Christmas, Holi evrything. I moved to Infy in Mysore after that. Did not see all this what you reported. After that Dell in Noida, MS and Oracle in Bangalore. From North to Bangalore and that too in 16 yrs I have not seen anything what you just said. There are no as such flags in desks, if you find it on the name of God Iam saying those are Indian Flags.
