Modi May Be Interested in Cross-Border Covert Ops Against Pakistan

.
I will like the first operation of RAW under modi should be to Kidnap Munshi before he can write the second part of the book, the world would be a better place to live.

Second part. What second part? Is RAW financing it? :woot:

.
RAW is toothless and clawless organization who just collect documents and evidence.. No matter Modi or Rahul comes to power, nothing will happem..

Even Modi want to do a covert Strike, Does he has enough resources???

No one can say for sure.

The power of RAW is totally debatable as the agency doesn't disclose anything.

But obviously, it isn't made to collect documents & to do paper work.

Narendra Modi, the BJP’s candidate for prime minister in India’s 2014 elections, may use covert ops in Pakistan.

May 02, 2014

Should Narendra Modi emerge as India’s prime minister at the end of this month, many expect a more muscular Indian foreign policy. With a few exceptions, Modi himself has been remarkably vague on his intentions for Indian foreign policy but, true to his “strong man” image, he has made sure to lambaste both China and Pakistan on the campaign trail. Indian foreign policy has generally been insulated from the vagaries of its prime ministers with one important exception: Pakistan. India’s relationship with Pakistan and its ongoing struggle against Pakistan-based terrorists are a source of major disagreement within the country’s political elite. In particular, while the incumbent Congress Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been keen to make progress on trade talks and return to the Composite Dialogue Process, Modi has different ideas about how India ought to respond to and handle Pakistan-based provocations.

One of the key differences between Modi and his Congress predecessor would be the former’s preference for leaning forward against Pakistan-based terror instead of exercising restraint. Restraint prevented escalation following the deadly November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, which were carried out by Laskhar-e-Taiba with the assistance and blessing of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. On the campaign trail, Modi recently recommended that India follow a “zero tolerance” policy against terrorism — in his view, following a major terrorist incident, the Indian government should “do more and speak less.”

“Terrorism, Maoism, narco-terrorism and fake currency, all these issues are destroying the country from within. The government should have a zero-tolerance policy against them,” Modi notes. Taking the example of Dawood Ibrahim, a long-wanted leader of the the Indian organized crime syndicate D-Company, Modi asks “Why is the Indian government not able to get Dawood? Do these things happen through the medium of newspapers? Did the U.S. issue a press note before they killed bin Laden? Did the U.S. government hold a press conference saying they will go on this particular date to get bin Laden? I am ashamed that that the Union Home Minister is giving such statements.” The statement he refers to was made earlier by Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

Modi’s comments are effectively the first time that a prominent Indian politician has publicly indicated a preference for cross-border covert operations against Pakistan. Such operations are in the domain of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). RAW is India’s intelligence agency, modeled on the CIA and created in the late 1960s after the Sino-Indian and India-Pakistan wars of 1962 and 1965 respectively. Organizationally, the RAW leadership is centralized and reports directly to the Indian National Security Adviser, and by proxy, the prime minister. RAW has been criticized for its lack of political accountability.

In terms of security, particularly in the disputed Kashmir region, India’s problem with Pakistan has been asymmetric sub-conventional warfare. India has traditionally responded to these threats through moderated conventional and police responses, and the two countries have often found themselves embroiled in temporary skirmishes which result in casualties on both sides but little else. Before the 1990s, RAW was significantly more audacious and did engage in the sorts of operations Modi contemplates. In particular, RAW leveraged its covert surveillance and offensive capabilities in the India-Pakistan War of 1971, in Bangladesh, during the annexation of Sikkim, and in Sri Lanka (among others). Additionally, in Pakistan, RAW already forms the basis of several conspiracy theories with more than a few Pakistanis attributing the nation’s ills to covert India-based agents.

Should Modi emerge as prime minister, he will be empowered to use RAW as he sees fit against Pakistan, without the knowledge or the consent of the Indian people. Since the Kargil War of 1999, India and Pakistan have enjoyed a delicate and imperfect equilibrium that has essentially been based around India exercising restraint in response to Pakistan-based provocations. Should India under Modi begin operations in Pakistan against high-value targets, modeled on the United States’ raid on Osama bin Laden, Pakistan may respond unpredictably.

When the BJP released its 2014 manifesto, the section on foreign policy was noticeably mild when it came to Pakistan. India’s future Pakistan policy is hugely controversial and maintaining ambiguity would be advantageous for the BJP as it contests the elections. If Indian foreign policy will change as a result of Modi being elected, it is likely to affect the India-Pakistan relationship first.

Modi sees little of merit in how the Congress-led UPA government handled Pakistan-borne terrorism. That said, Modi has indicated that he admires former BJP Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s foreign policy, which practiced equal parts restraint and assertiveness when it came to Pakistan. Vajpayee traveled twice to Pakistan while Singh, despite rumors that he would travel to Islamabad in his final days in office, never made the trip. Should Modi sanction cross-border covert operations targeting militants in Pakistan, any progress towards broader bilateral ties between the two South Asian rivals would be set back considerably.

Everything depends on Pakistan. If pakistan is genuinely interested in good relationship with India, there is no one like Modi. He will respond that very positively. However, if Pakistan continue to support terrorism, this man will be the night mare for pakistan. He will certainly device a long term plan to weaken the pakistan. Ball shall be in court of Pakistan.

Ask ur brave RAW then why the f**k they bomb Markets in Pakistan example for u is that of Sarbjeet Sing(RAW) who bombed Lahore Market in 90s

Sarbjeet Singh was framed and later murdered. Why blame RAW when you guys fail to control your own strategic assets aka terrorists?

That is not what I wrote .... All I meant is that RAW will possibly favour Modi as he will use the agency more often ...

Go to Senior cafe i posted the same from The Hindu newspaper you will find what will be consequences of such a favour .

And than we have Indians who blame Pakistanis of being obsessed with India and Indians.:disagree:

When was the last time you guys heard any Pakistani politician or government official making such a claim? The entire Indian politics revolve around teaching Pakistan a lesson.

The days of teaching Pakistan a lesson are long gone because of the MAD doctrine that exists. So get over it and face the reality. The sooner India does that the better we can all move along. Rest assured any attack on Pakistan covert or overt will be responded in kind.
