The Prime Minister visited CiRA - Center for iPS Cell Research and Application, at Kyoto University. He interacted with the Center`s Director, Mr. Shinya Yamanaka. The Prime Minister expressed concern over the prevalence of sickle cell anaemia, especially among tribal communities across India. The Prime Minister urged Mr. Yamanaka to work towards a cure for this. Mr. Yamanaka said that there are currently no Indian researchers at his institute, and he would like Indian scientists to conduct research at the institute

i guess, all doctors know this, along with sickle cell anemia, hemophilia is also predominant in tribal communities of India(specially NE),while thalasemia is prevalent in north India
How many of you knew about this disease
Only Medical students!
Got any cure? The pathophysiology of this disease is due to a mutation of the Beta globin chain of the hemoglobin , which leads to valine to be substituted for glutamic acid. The result of this is the loss of elasticity of erythrocytes (red blood cells), and thus it manifests in a sickle-like shape, hence its name, "sickle cell anemia". The irregular shape is responsible for resulting vaso-occlusive disease in the circulatory system, as well as hypertrophy of the spleen and liver leading to hepatosplenomegaly in palpation of the liver and spleen.
Yes, medical students, as well as graduate students.

I've heard a different version of it.........
When Swamiji was in Japan, once he bought some fruits from a vendor/shop, the seller cheated him(gave him rotten fruits) but Swamiji didn't realize as he was new to the country and just relied on the seller.
A local Japanese standing by saw the incident and when Swamiji was about to leave the shop, he intervened, criticized the vendor and made sure that Swamiji got good fruits.......
Swamiji thanked him and when he was leaving, the local person requested Swamiji to not mention the incident to his countrymen when he returns to his country as it would 'show Japan in bad light'......
Later, while talking about patriotism and love for the country, Swamiji recalled the incident and said that it is an example of true patriotism......the local Japanese was a true patriot, he didn't want his country's image to be tarnished.....
