Terming India-Iran relations as strategic is the text book definition of "jumping to conclusions". @Ind4Ever

  1. As of today, relations are more or less strictly economic though cooperation in Afghanistan is an exception.
  2. Both India & Iran has for all intents as purposes, refused to comment and label each others relations with Israel & Pakistan respectively. @Kaptaan . Economic agenda was & still is the priority.
  3. In Afghanistan, bilateral interests diverged quite a bit since the rise of ISIS in Af-Pak region with Iran now cooperating with Taliban against ISIS, something which is though understandable but not favourable for India.
  4. India is a huge market for Iran and will only get bigger and this is not just about oil and gas.
  5. China's relations with Iran should inconsequential for India. Competing with China on economic front in Central Asia is unwise but making Indian presence felt in the entire region is not.
  6. Considering that the UPA govt. wasted 10 years with thumbs up as**, India has quite a lot of catching up to do and this visit by PM is a great way to start tings in the right direction.

Relations are temporary, interests not so much.

.
The American and Israeli friends of India will take care of this. Question will be is Modi going to lecture the Iranian's on behalf of his Israeli and American buddies or build a friendly relationship with that country. Is he going to play the "good cop" part of the act to Israeli/USA "bad cop" routine?

Try harder :D

. .
No need to. I let Netanyu, Obama or Trump down the road do it. Like Hillary Clinton lassoed India.

Friends indeed

India and Iran have Only economic relations

Iran needs HUGE investments and markets for its Oil and Gas

Iran has lost a lot of time due to sanctions

There for Iran is now working Harder with all its Economic partners

Chahbahar and Gwadar are Natural COMPETITORS

That is because of Geo Graohical proximities

You should work harder for Gwadar rather than trying to run down India Iran relations

Iran will BUY its weapons from Russia and China

So US and Israel have NOTHING to complain about

Pakistan Maritime Boundary....:nhl_checking:

That boundary refers only to EEZ of Pakistan. Not its territory. According to UN, a nation's territory cannot extend beyond 20 nautical miles from sea coast. We always will have the right of passage. They are international waters for navigation. Even Indian Naval ships can transit in that area

.
my understanding was that India can play a positive peace maker role in Iran/West /Arab conflict due to its friendly relations with all sides.
so extended that I think that India might be able to play a role to bring Iran and US together or at least cease their hostilities just like once Pakistan did re China and USA.
but many Indian members have told me that India doesnt care much about such relations between these parties and will keep a low key but friendly relation with everyone without compromising its position or antagonising anyone
now that is praise worthy. on one side India visits the KSA and other GCC countries and makes some token Econimic deals but then it is also keeping Iran close by.

and I dont see Americans or Iranians or GCC Arabs monarchs raising an eyebrow over it.
compare that to Pakistan where a minister of a small country like UAE has the audacity to threaten Pakistan with consequences when it chose not to send troops in the GCC invasion of Yemen

.
Those waters belong to Pakistan and is patroled by our navy. It is our choice at present to allow Indian navigation through our waters. As you build hostile infrastructure around us, you all can say bye-bye to the priviledge we allow you.

We dont need any preivelege from pakistan, you can keep it for yourself.

We will establish our privelege in those international waters by our own force of indian navy.

You are free to try and stop us.

.
Trade is not a zero sum game.

Connectivity is always good. India and China are in Iran to trade for the mutual benefit of those countries and for the benefit of Iran and Central Asia.

I cannot understand why Pakistan will be affected in any way by this. It is just trade, dollars and cents . India is not asking for military bases nor will Iran ever give them. If Pakistan had any sense you would be welcoming this and joining in with the trade. Trade with Iran, Afghanistan, India, China and CAS instead of playing silly power games.

.
India will be spending more money to go around our waters lol. Proves the IQ level of Indiots, they fail at every single thing lol.

Pakistani water - as in 12 Miles from Pakistani coast.
Wow, thats a huge amount of money!!

Those waters belong to Pakistan and is patroled by our navy. It is our choice at present to allow Indian navigation through our waters. As you build hostile infrastructure around us, you all can say bye-bye to the priviledge we allow you.

That is pure bs, Pakistani waters only extend up to 12 Nautical miles from Pakistani territory.
After that, it is all international waters.
And yes Exclusive Economic zone is also international waters. No permission is needed to transverse through EEZ.

.
Chahbahar and Gwadar are Natural COMPETITORS
How? Gwadar is a warm water deep sea port, how can they be competitors if they dont have the same purpose, Gwadar will be used for Pakistan and Huge amount of chinese trade and some trade from central asia too.
Gwadar is being built because karachi cannot support the idea and load of CPEC and chinese trade, while if you want to trade with afghanistan and CAS then why dont use bandar abbas?

.
I went through all the posts by the Pakistani members on this thread and drew the following two conclusions.
1. The Pakistanis do not know the difference between Exclusive 'ECONOMIC' Zone and Territorial waters!!

2. They seem to be banking on China to even fight their iwn wars from them. Someone actually said tgat China would soon overshadow India in Iran comercially!! So what. Its China right ?? Not Pakistan. And do u giys really expect the relations between China and Pak to remain the same for the next 50 years?? Do the Pakistanis really hope that the Chinese would continue to drag a liability like Pakistan through the years?? Only way I see that happening is that if the Pakistanis secede a latge portion of their territory to China or hand over their control to the PLA. And even jn that case it would always be India vs China and still no Pakistan. You are neither India nor China.

There is a saying in Hindi;

Udta hua teer gaa** main nahi lete. If India were to stick its neck out it will do exactly that. Neither India nor anybody else is in a position to douse the 1500 year old fire. Pakistan is stuck between a rock and a hard place because it chose to be a part of this game. There are no free lunches in this world, a lesson Pakistan repeatedly refuses to learn.

Indonesia, largest Muslim country is very much unaffected by this nonsense.
