Led by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, several Muslim organisations on Thursday opposed the law commission's questionnaire on the uniform civil code (UCC), declaring that the move amounts to the Modi government+ declaring "war" on their religious rights.

The threat of Muslim organisations to "boycott" the law commission process also comes in the backdrop of the Supreme Court hearing a challenge to triple talaq where the Centre termed the custom unconstitutional and violative of gender equality .

Accusing the government of waging "war" against the community and contending that the UCC, if implemented, will threaten the country's pluralism.


Since Muslims have rejected secularism and are ready to go to war(jihad) if uniform civil code is implement? What should be done now?

I am no scholar on the wisdom behind religious provisos in scriptures but this one is very obvious. It is more about identification of parentage which would not have been easy if a single woman were to marry multiple men (unless subjected to DNA testing and so on) as opposed to a single man marrying multiple women

Moreover, I personally believe in freedom of religious practices, so long as they do not hurt religious sentiments of another religion. Hard to achieve the ideal but the underlying intention shall be this and I believe with sincere efforts some kind of reasonable middle grounds could be created

In the 1990s the objection was you could not find out the father. With DNA testing the objection is invalid. May be time to rewrite the Quran

May be you are not qualified enough to comment on your own religion let alone Islam and the Holy book.

For your information, Quran is the Holy book 'written' by Almighty Allah himself, along with His word that this is the last book. So perhaps there is a need to improve one's understanding of the book and the message it contains rather than trying to 'rewrite it' to fit our own twisted desires

How is it then that close to 20 Muslim nations have abolished such practices and yet remain functioning Muslim nations ?
