Damn am serious.. WE should be a ine big family...
The matter of fact is SL, after some years of walking the right path, is the economic star of South Asia
View attachment 199866
- In GDP per capita (current US$), by 2013, SL has reached $3,279.9
- That's like 131% higher than South Asian average.
- Also higher than ex-regional developing economies e.g. Vietnam and Philippines of the ASEAN.
- Almost sustain an average 12.9% growth YOY since 2005, very impressive speed.
- Similar pattern is observed in other indices like UN HDI, World Bank Poverty data, etc.
It would be mutually beneficial both for SL as a developer/operator, and China as an investor/builder, to continue ride on this successful model of growth. China has the fund/tech, SL has the growth, business goes.
In future SL as a more developed economy in the vicinity could also play a constructive role to India's economy, like Taiwan/HK once contributed to China's development during the 80~90's. SL spearheads regional development, its ripple effect will benefit other countries in the region.

With a family like yours, we don't even need enemies.Damn am serious.. WE should be a ine big family...
China will definitely be a main partner in that progress.. Given this new govt a little time to iron out the mess the previous did.. President Sirisena''s state visit to Beijing mid March will be a new beginning
Going downhill after new government came into power under Ranil and Sirisena, sorry to say. Sri Lanka is now doomed to low growth, subsidies for all and sundry, with a politically weak government suckling at India and the west's teat and doing their bidding.

Sri Lanka's Ties With India And China Are Equally Important: Wickremasinghe
The Government of Sri Lanka sees both India and China as important allies, but interacts and deals with them separately, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.
In an exclusive interview to Thanthi TV, Prime Minister Wickremasinghe said Friday, "We keep the Indo-Sri Lanka relations separate from the Sino-Sri Lanka relations... Both are important for us. With India, there is a historic link. Under the Indo-Lanka agreement, both countries have agreed that they will not take any measures that will harm the security of the other country. So, in conducting our relations with China or, with other country, we keep this in mind."
"With this way, we are able to handle the Indo-Sri Lanka relationship separately from the Sino-Lanka relations. What we did not like was the attempt at the time of Rajapaksa regime to play India off against China. Play the China card with India, (and the) India card with China. That is not a wise policy. India also helped us. Without the help of India, President Rajapaksa could have not wiped out the LTTE. He got that help and he agreed to give concessions even beyond the 13th amendment...But he did not do so," Wickremasinghe added.
The Sri Lankan Prime Minister further went on to say that India did help his country in the civil war against the LTTE, and rather humorously said that those in denial of this fact, were suffering from selective amnesia.
When asked specifically to respond to the view that India has been categorically denying its role in the war against the LTTE, Wickremasinghe said, "Yes... certainly (they did have a role). Amnesia, you know is very common among politicians."
Asked to respond to the perception that the previous regime (of Mahinda Rajapaksa) was largely in tilt towards China, Wickremasinghe first reaction was, "As I told you, we have no Pro china tilt; we have No Pro India tilt."

Give it some patience, politics is always messy.
China has clear global strategy that includes South Asia, and MSR, and others. Life is full of ups and downs, like sailing though rough seas, just set the course right and people will prevail!
Vision on the Global South
You are right, China will do its part to bring countries into its orbit and contrary to what some people say, there is still a lot of Chinese investments going on in the country including Lotus Tower and 5-star hotels but it's a shame what happened to port city project even considering what India did with one of the real-estate project that it undertook which it didn't have enough funds and stopped. But China on the other hand is capable of completing the investments that it is committed to. I hope the relations with China will improve.Give it some patience, politics is always messy.

President himself doesn't like that idiot either. That's why he will not leave executive powers. Not with Ranil Wickremasinghe in power it won't.
Relations with China are on a downward spiral ever since the idiot ensconced himself in power.
You are optimistic. Current SL prime minister:
- screamed and denigrated China prior to the polls
- after coming to power has been trying to stop Chinese projects in the island
- got his foreign minister to say - in China itself - that Chinese submarines will not be allowed to dock in Sri Lanka
- has stopped the Colombo Port City project - Sri Lanka's biggest investment to date by China.
- His finance minister states publicly that Chinese economic influence needs to be reduced in Sri Lanka in order to reduce corruption!
This man is going to destroy Sino-Lankan relations.
It shows that SL is really a "cheap" country. You should follow the contracts signed with China. And then how you do in bed with India is anothing thing. Neither India nor China will be glad with this sh't of equally important.
