Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modis critics will launch Pheku.in to counter his online prominence in 25 cities across the country on Friday.
What makes the move interesting-to-watch is that the website has been developed by activists like Shabnam Hashmi of Anhad, whose NGO has been fighting for justice for the victims of the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
But, Modi fans call it a confirmation of BJP lead campaigners rise in popularity, say and power ahead of 2014 elections.
However, Hashmi declares on Facebook that the website would bring out facts which had been buried under the mountains of lies and deceits.
Modis critics have coined a phrase "feku" or "pheku" for Modi and wherever he speaks on any issue, his fans and critics immediately launch #hashtags war on Twitter, a social media platform that has changed the way political discourse is conducted in the country.
Earlier, Ahmedabad-based leading human rights lawyer Mukul Sinha and his team had launched a dedicated website Truth Of Gujarat : Lies are Transient, Truth is Eternal to "present a true picture of the state under Modi."
Sinha has been fighting fake encounter cases in Gujarat and his efforts in Sadiq Jamal, Tulsi Prajapati and Ishrat Jahan encounter cases have been a major catalyst to necessitate CBI investigations.
Needless to mention that the Congress and its social media wings, activists and intellectuals had also taken to social media to challenge Modi and BJP, which have dominated Twitter and Facebook so far.
Is it going to be a cyber war against Modi, whose rise as a national leader from Gujarat backwaters has estranged many leaders across political outfits? Just wait and watch.
