Rafale is a good option but the French don't seem to be relenting on terms set forth. Wonder how they put up with the fact that Rafale has not scored a single foreign sales and is only going to make them lose this contract.

What gives a beggar airforce like PAF even right to speak? We'll get our rafales around 126,infact deal may extend till 189 as per reports. We have SU 30 MKIs, MKIs upgraded to Super Sukhois or SU 35BM in the works, PAKFA in the works, MIG 29UPGs, Mirage 2000Hmk2s, tejas in production. The sky is our oyster now.

On your front second hand F 16 BLK 15s, JF 17 MK1 with unfinished components, third hand mirages and old J7s and a JF 17 MK3 that is more like tejas MK 1 in the works.

we dont need grippen bro but the offer by swedes to help upgradation of production facility and some minor tweakes here and there tomake tejas more efficient and light and its international marketing and thats what we need actualli even this MMRCA deal was done with that in mind = TOT

as per what french are doing is cause the machine they are offerring is realli great but way too expensive and french is not willing to give what we actualli want

i guess its better to buy french made 4 squads of rafale and do a swedish kind of deal with them for tejas

Reliable ?? they are very hard bargainers and they won't mind selling any kind of weapons to our enemies if they get loads of $$$ , I think MOD should issue a statement saying they are reconsidering EFT and Gripen for competition which may get France back on their feet

They are still reliable in the sense they don't tie you down with conditions. Freedom has a cost, my friend. And they are here to do business. French are strong negotiators but you must remember that they deliver. Mirage 2000 is still IAF's favourite jet after the MKI.

Technically we shouldn't even be importing being the world's fourth largest military power.

It is a shame and disgrace that we are not a weapons exporting nation.

You can't entirely rule out the possibility. If Modi is pushing Jaitley to focus on LCA Mk2 and is trying to get more numbers, then we may, and I am just saying may, change the numbers.

There are many countries that rely on a heavy-light combination and don't essentially depend on medium class.

Either way, It is good for us.

If current Indian Government investigates they will find out that huge corruption is involved in this project they have either taken bribes or done some thing else Man who would choose Rafale over Euro Fighter and Even F-16 Block 52 for GOD sake the choice made it clear from day one some thing fishy is going on

Representatives of Lockheed Martin and Boeing were given the reports of the IAF trials after their planes lost to the EF and Rafale..... and guess what, they did not object to the IAF`s decision afterwards. Those trials were done on technical basis only

F-16 has many models and F-16 Block 52 is far better than Rafale and also Euro Fighter is far better than Rafale Mr hte moment you chose Rafale it was clear to me that something big is happening behind the scenes

India tested the latst F 16 models extensively, in the deserts, mountains, jungles ...everywhere in India, yet they lost to the Rafale and EF.

I am not buying it- anyone who follows this deal will know the amount of sheer BS and contradicting reports that come out and are often attributed to UNAMED sources- deal will be signed in 3 months, deal will be signed in 6 months, deal is in trouble with EFT and Gripen back in the hunt, deal is to be signed when French foreign Minister visits, deal will only be discussed during French foreign minister's visit. A mixture of ignorant and paid reporting.


Regarding this bit of news I am not convinced- from the more credible reports it was stated the price of the deal was $16BN spread over 10 years and that the Defence/Finance Minister Jaitley had been pleased with this outlay.

However, the ammount of critical ToT would be reduced of course, while the cost per unit will increase! More importantly, the production line at HAL would get only orders, therefor would be less useful.

So all in all, that would be stupid and I don't see any hint for that.

I think the Politics is there, The Politics might make Rafale take appropriate steps.....they must be followed.
