These are the tactics played to milk more money from Telcos. First it was the prepaid and postpaid fiasco, now this. Malik Sb... you're a gem of a Minister.

On a side note, the postal service in Pakistan is extremely horrible though.

The government wants it's share on the interconnect charges.

On other notes, Here in Saudi when the government wanted to register SIMS, they gave a deadline and told whoever doesn't visit vendor's office and update information will have their SIMs closed.

Why can't Pakistan do the same ?

That might be a possibility, but I doubt regular shops selling prepaid SIM cards rely solely on them for revenue. As per this article here, franchises may continue to exist provided they adopt the practice of delivering SIMs at the applicants' addresses. There are bound to be other better solutions that eliminate security risks while continuing to allow telecommunication companies the freedom to use different channels to sell SIMs. Perhaps those companies should allow certain outlets to register SIMs to a customer's identity card on-site?

Yeah, Saudi Arabia's method was good, but there still is an abundance of illegal prepaid SIM cards available here too. In fact, it's alleged that the employees of companies like STC or Zain sell those SIM cards to shop keepers on their own. Besides that, many illegal SIMs in Saudi Arabia were registered to someone else's identification. It's kind of like using someone else's car's number plate to perform a crime, & that is exactly what makes it dangerous. In Pakistan, those SIMs are registered to fake CNICs. According to this article on Arab News, the municipality has taken it on itself to ensure that shops are unable to sell illegal SIMs.

That's the best way to rule out fraudulent sims..

Government is disgrace, they are trying their level best to get enough money out of people pockets..

I think its good step....not every aera ghera should be allowed to sell sims...only registered franchises... fake sims are not only problem of terrorism but also prank calls,,, he also said sattelite phones will need registration with PTA.... support him fully on this as well.

There should be a strict rule, strict terms & conditions on issuing of Mobile Sim's plus all the night packages & other packages should be terminated these packages are only helping terrorists & destroying the youth of Pakistan.
