IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Norman Browne today said the two final commercial bids in the Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) -- from Dassault for the Rafale and EADS for the Typhoon -- will be opened by the end of this month. On October 7, the MoD's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) will hold a final meeting on the programme, and, according to the IAF chief, "sort out any final issues before the bids are opened"

Nothing more.. but issue is with current currency prices, its toooo costly..

I THINK THE RAFAEL WILL BE THE TRANCHE 3 complete with RBE2 aesa and will come fully loaded with weapons at $110m each.

meaning 126 x 110m = $14 billion approx for total deal

Typhoon will come at $130m each again with full weapons and latest tranche 3 spec.

= $130m x 126 = $16 billion in total

Both deal will be massively over budget especially TYPHOON.

Typhoon will lose this bid on the following grounds.

Not going to happen, once because the EURO is falling as well, but more importantly because MMRCA is way way more important than a simple aircraft replacement or addition like P8I, C17, or C130s!
We should keep in mind that all US deals are simple procurements, with the production in the US itself and that makes them so fast to deliver. The minor customisations with Indian systems are not big deals, but what would have been when they would have won one of the licence production deals, which really will bring our industry to the next stage? Would they still be that fast and more over, would our industry really benefit that much from them? The simple fact, that all really important deals/competition will be given to Russian and Europeans says way more about the importance of the US than many of us believes.

- FGFA co-development for 250+ fighters, reportedly prefered over the partnership in F35
- MMRCA in licence production for 126+ fighters, F16IN and F18SH were rejected
- LUH in licence production for 197 helicopters, US manufacturers lost the first competition and backed out from the 2nd
- Basic trainer in licence production for 75+ aircrafts, US manufacturer lost

These are the big number and key procurements for our forces as well as our industry, while the US deals are just additions, or replacements in special fields and in lower numbers. It's good that the C130s or P8Is come in time and can be inducted very fast, but shouldn't surprising since Boeing and LM are big companies, with a reputation of beeing world class or leaders in their fields.
However, as long as we can't fully trust the US and they see us only as a simple buyer of their arms, compared to the long and reliable relationships to Russian, Israeli and European countries and manufacturers, they will remain our prime partners and will get the biggest piece of the Indian defence market!

Then the negotiations will beginn, it's not like we will have a winner by friday! The government will open the bids, will compare them and negotiate with the vendors on certain fields, be it price, be it ToT...
IAF hopes to get a final decision unitl the end of the year and when we look at the way the decisions were taken this year, everything seems to be on fasttrack and this timeline can be hit.

No they don't because there are a shareholder without any say in the company and regarding Dassaults policies, not to mention that the Rafale is not offered by Dassault alone, but by Thales and Safran as well and they will offer a joint bid of course.

The $10 to 12 billion budget that was often stated does not inclued weapons, they will be procured in additional deals, just like it is the case in M2K and Mig 29 upgrade. Btw, it's Rafale, not Rafael.

I agree with Sancho; this deals been going on for quite some to time now. It would be a 'slap in the face' to those countries participating in the deal, due to their time and effort. And not to mention that it's crucial for India to have these fighters, their absoulutely needed. India can't maintain regional power if this deal doesn't go through, especially in it's airspace. Pakistan is already improving their airforce at a rapid rate too; inducting Jf-17's and perhaps new planes such as the J-10. We all know India is in a hostile location, this deal is essential; and if the Ministry of Defence for India is too stupid to realise this then..., well, let's not think about it. Also i do agree India is building upon its relationships with the U.S, but for deals such as this ( Pricey), it's better to support old trusted allies (France, Russia, EU, Isreal,) than the U.S (fairely new ally of India). So it can't be scrapped.

But anyways, best of luck with the final deal. Hopefully this meeting goes smoothly, and Indians can proudly watch as the Rafale, or Eurofighter get inducted as soon as possible.
