New headquarters building of MIT opens
The first building of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), which was created with the aim of gathering the intelligence in one hand in every issue related to the preparation of the national security policy of the state with the Law No. 644, which was accepted in the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 1965, was located in the Hacı Bayram Mosque region. MİT has been moved many times over the years due to various reasons. then moved to its current address in Yenimahalle in the 1970s.
In the middle of the settlement
MİT's building in Yenimahalle has remained among the houses in the residential area for years; this situation became both vulnerable and inadequate to meet the needs of the MIT. According to the new plan, a large area will be allocated to MIT in the land belonging to the Armored Units in Etimesgut and the new building of MIT will be completed in 2015; In 2017, the settlement would be completed. However, construction was completed in 2019.
President Erdoğan visited the MİT's new castle building in July and made observations. Erdogan, more than 1.5 hours during the visit using the latest technology, the building had received information about the technical equipment. Moved from the main headquarters building in Yenimahalle, where it has been serving for 50 years, the opening of the new building of MIT will be done by Erdoğan in the second week of 2020. The opening is scheduled for Monday 6 January.
Located at the intersection of the Turkish Red Crescent and the Grand National Assembly and the Ministry of Interior, the General Staff and the Ministry of National Defense, Air Force and Naval Forces are expected to move to this land equipped with the latest technology soon.
Special protection against listening
Built on an area of 5 thousand acres, there is no other structure around the new settlement. Surrounded by concrete walls and barbed wires, which are about 3 meters tall, the buildings in the new campus have been designed specifically against eavesdropping, unauthorized access and infiltration. The headquarters, which was built in horizontal architecture on sheltered terrain, has a section where MIT personnel will practice shooting besides the main building and a VIP airport.
