Misfortune strikes Akash missile project

@dott You will only know if Akash is capable if you test it on a liable target. No jet would travel at 0.65 Mach over a airspace, isn't that what Akash would be fighting against? How will you see if Akash can truly defend if you test on a snail when you're really going to be fighting a cheetah?

So Akash can be used at extremely close range as well... As in fly over the enemy plane Tog-Gun style and drop the frikkin thing on the pilot's head

i agree with your point... but how we [or any one] can test a sam system with speed as that of fighters....?
simulation is one thing.. which DRDO has already done the same before inducting..... but here we are discussing about the user trail of indian army.....

blah!blah!! Do you even know that this is best practice performed all over the world to test SAM !! 1st get yourself brush up ,what experts do to a SAM system.

please enlighten the dark world where we thrive.
thanx

So totally---
First test successful.
Second test failure.
Third was of 2 missiles fired back to back, of which 1 was a failure and second one successful.

This same IBN website claimed that the second test was a success, while the Hindu claimed it was a failure. Now IBN says "Misfortune struck the Akash missile project once again." The morons in IBN were wrong about the second test afterall. "The Hindu" was right!

That's a 50% success rate overall in this series of tests.

Akash has a tested speed of Mach 2.5 and with a Ramjet Engine in place the speed does not vary but remains the same till it intercepts the target, a feature I doubt even the Patriot has.

Worse case scenario? Akash fails to hit the target again and again.. So the algo or the seeker are off.
A quick fix alternative would be to acquire another seeker from either Israel(Derby) or Russia(Sa-17) and use it on the Akash body which is still a fine platform for a SAM.

There is no reported failure in seeker so far. It is just the missile did not blast off with enough power.

Moreover, Akash has been tested extensively by IAF and even deployed.

No jets will fly in high mach number in low altitude. Higher speed=high altitude. This test was against low flying targets IMO.

Don't worry. The failure is not india's fault. The Russians have to reimburse you for faulty products

i know its hard for you but you need to quit trolling.

these failures are a part and parcel of any weapon sys trials. it will be corrected. nothing to worry about.

That's a very good assessment. However, we now have a new breed of R&D hawks hell bent on making everything "indigenously" or by "ToT". Which really just makes the whole thing lag.

Back-to-back Akash missile tests: One successful - South India - Orissa - ibnlive

Sources said though the two missiles were lined up for tests, the first one fell down on the sand after blasting off from the launcher. The second one fired five minutes later was, however, successful.
“The first missile fell down due to technical snags in the system. The launcher did not get required command in time to fire the missile, for which heat generation to have initial thrust was not enough to push the missile upward. Scientists are looking for a solution to the faults and hope it could be sorted out before the next trial on Wednesday,” the source said.
Both the missiles were test-fired by the Army at about 11.02 am and 11.07 am from the specially-made launch pad near launching complex-III of the ITR at Chandipur-on-sea. The missiles had to target the toe bodies suspended from the pilot-less target aircraft (PTA). Earlier, two Akash missiles were successfully tested from the same test range on May 24 and May 26.

Every one knows that, Only all the Chini high IQs can deliver near 100% success rate from their birth. Those who know otherwise are not chinis and taught a good lesson to forget what they know and learn new things in life :D

Considering India used to import SAM's from Russia and is now building them in India, this is just a bump in the road.
