8th March 1968 was a historic day in the history of Pakistan Air Force. On this day, first batch of formidable French Mirages was ferried-in to Pakistan. A group of promising fighter pilots under the command of legendary MM Alam accomplish the historic task.

Elite No 5 Sqn was given the honor of inducting state-of-the-art weapon system of that time. In the 1971 War, the newly inducted Mirages honored the legacy of 1965 and proved its mettle. 54 years of service.

considering many think they will solider on for at least a decade, minor upgrades to the air frame and electronics shouldn’t be out of the question, especially to allow these planes to self protect themselves and not tie down other aircraft to protect the mirages. It shouldn't be too big of a challenge for PAC, and could allow PAC to also enter the upgrade market for other countries air forces, that can’t afford to buy the JF-17. There may not be many Mirage operators left, but with Pakistan set to make domestic AESA radars, and other electronics, a whole host of aircrafts could be candidates for PAC’s upgrade services, especially eastern block aircraft the Russians may not be able to service for the foreseeable future due to their own needs and limitations.

Short in height, but tall in action! I have read somewhere in PDF that MM Alam was also the first from the PAF to test F-16s and recommend them. Now, if we consider JF-17s a follow up of F16s, and J-10s a cross of Mirages and F-16s then this folk's trace can be found everywhere in the PAF!!! Strangely, if PAF's NGF is a version of TFX then it is also built around the F-16 experience. No wonder TFX block 0 will have F16 engines, and as par TAI boss it'll be at the least as good as F16 block 70.....
