Minorities in Bangladesh Protest Against Establishment of Islam as State Religion

06/19/2021 Bangladesh (International Christian Concern) – Last week, Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists in Bangladesh joined together to participant in the annual “Black Day” protest. Each year, religious minorities demonstrate on June 9 against the adoption of Islam as the state religion in Bangladesh.

On June 9, 1988, Bangladesh adopted the eighth amendment to the Constitution which established Islam as the state religion. Each year, members of Bangladesh’s religious minority communities join to protest this amendment.

With the amendment, the seed of sectarian politics has been planted,” Nirmol Rozario, a Christian leader, told Asia News. “In a country where Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians also live, a single religion cannot proclaim itself as the state religion. We do not agree.

In its Constitution, Bangladesh declares itself a secular country,” Rozario continued. “But at the same time, it says that the state religion is Islam. This is a clear contradiction. And if this state of affairs continues, Islamic fundamentalism and religious hatred will end up creating serious problems.

In Bangladesh, religious minorities, including Christians, faced both discrimination and outright persecution. Because of this, members of the minority communities have called for the establishment of a minority commission.

Religious minorities are often persecuted by the majority group,” Rana Dasgupta, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, told Asia News. “For our security, we strongly demand a minority ministry and a commission for religious communities.

why is ok in BD and not ok in Kashmir? I mean they can always move to Pakistan?!

.
We let these fools slide, they get it so easy and yet complain?

. .
My opinion is to make BD a pluralist state...declare Hinduism and Buddhism as state religions too...the only place where Islam comes into play in the constitution is regarding marriage and inheritance laws...same applies for Hindus...give Buddhists the same laws and declare those two as state religions too.

Kashmir is disunited territory what the hell are you going on about? It’s also a Muslim majority and has been for centuries.
For a “Bengali” you sure cheer lead India to the hilt. Also what’s Pakistan got to do with this?

so you wouldn't mind India making Hinduism the official religion? and lets say that they implement this in the Kashmiri territory they control?

Why stop at Hinduism and Buddism then? Why not also declare Christianity, Judaism, Animism, Sikhism, Pastafarianism, Atheism, etc. too as state religions?

We can't correct stupidity with more stupidity.

With an overwhelmingly Muslim population, Bangladesh has always been a Musilm country.
There was no need to drag religion into the constitution as the government has no business meddling with religion. Now that Islam is documented as state religion, there is no opportunity to remove it without sparking civil war.

The government should maintain radio silence on this issue for now until the population is more educated and mature in a few decades.

Anything the government says on the topic will hurt stability in this country of overly emotional, deluded morons.

Only reason you jeets are in Kashmir is because you lied about being a sheckular country to Sheikh Abdullah and NC members and convinced them to stay. Hand over Kashmir then you can have your Dindoo raj.

why? the maharaja exceeded to India, why cant India change gears and become a Hindu nation?

Mind what? You are supposedly Bengali I'm not, so I have no opinion on it. Territory they "control" you mean after turning into a mass prison, where rape and murder goes unpunished. I do like how consistent you are with all your genocide talk.
What part of disputed territory don't you understand.

Accession doesn't count for anything, it was the will of the people which determined which princely state went to which country. Pakistan being an Islamic nation was based on the will of the people of each province. Not a surprise Dindoos don't want to do that, seeing as how Dindoo Rashtra would be a disaster for not just Muslims, but for lower castes.
