NEW DELHI: Indian Navy's submarine INS Sindhughosh had a minor collision with an unlit fishing trawler off the coast of Mumbai earlier this week, the Navy has said.

The Navy claims there has been no damage to the submarine and the Ministry of Defence has been informed.

INS Sindhughosh was carrying out a special boat section operation - where a submarine comes close to a shore and saboteurs are launched from the torpedo tubes for special operations.

A special section operation is done at least once a year.

More details are awaited.

Mumbai is amongst the busiest and most congested ports around, precisely why the IN is shifting the majority of its Western fleet to INS Kadamba in Karwar, the second phase of this base's expansion is already underway, within a few years these sort of incidents will be a thing of the past.

Far too much information being released about the Sub's operations, very irresponsible by the media.

Anyway, no damage occurred but this incident would have to have been reported to the higher echelons and thus this media circus over a non-incident.

You think India is the only place where incidents like this occur?

@waz sir please could you change the title, apportioning blame can't be done at this stage

They are afraid of grounding their submarines again, so they avoid diving deep. But when they sail on the surface, they don't know how to steer around fishing boats. Poor India.
