Yes, given the threat perception we need to raise our defence spending at 2.5 percent of our GDP. Currently India is spending 2.1 percent of GDP(62 billion dollar) on defence. Bangladesh economy is 1/9th the size of India but our defence budget is 1/15th of them. This shows how little we are spending on defence. Bangladesh has 1/8th the population of India. In ideal condition, Bangladeshi economy should be 1/7th of India and our defence budget 1/6th of them. One-sixth of defence budget compared to India I think is minimum if we want to achieve credible deterrence against India(taking into account of their military obligation towards China and Pakistan). If we can achieve credible deterrence against India then Myanmar would be no problem.

We should focus to this goal. To achieve this we need to increase our per capita income 15 percent higher than India(currently 15 percent less) and raise our defence spending 16 percent higher as a percentage of GDP compared to India(2.5% vs 2.1%). Both of this goal is very much achievable within 10 years. Spending 2.5 percent of GDP is very normal and sustainable for any developing country without diverting resource from development priorities. Central point is, we have to increase our tax collection, which is now at atrocious level, perhaps among the bottom 10 countries in the world. This must to change if we want rapid economic development and a strong armed forces.

The Bombardier might be overkill for the geographically small BD but whatever the vehicle, the radar is what

It would really enhance capabilities for monitoring the EEZ as well as over BD proper, I would think.

If our GDP at the moment is around 340 Billion dollars, and we spend 2% on the military, the budget would be near 7 billion which would certainly help us develop our armed forces much quicker

We could defiantly be spending more, if we were to allocate between 5-6 billion we could continue at the current rate while also building up and indigenous defense industry

Consistent Increase, that is good to see.

Numbers themselves, not very impressive.

Realistically speaking though, I am not very concerned with this as long as there are no obvious imminent threats to our sovereignty. There are much more important sectors that need government attention and larger budget allocation, Education and Healthcare come to mind.

Military budget is bumped to 2% of GDP? Good.

Not bumped but consistently growing as the economy grows? Also good.

The need of the hour, right now is for more money to be poured into Healthcare and subsequently Education.

Despite what others may say, we aren't going to get annexed 10 years down the line, we can afford to focus elsewhere until 2030.

Our Military will need to reflect that since as our influence and powers grow, so will the threats and risks. Lwts say the GDP is about 750b - 1 trillion, That will mean that we will have significant influence in world affairs

Yes, India is not our enemy. But as long as the Hindutva fascist remain the dominant power in India we can not trust India to not to try harm Bangladesh. So we have to prepare ourselves rather become sorry if we find ourselves in any nasty situation. Just because, Bangladesh should acquire military might does not mean Bangladesh should take belligerent posture against India. It will entirely depends on how India treat Bangladesh. If future India get enlightened leadership with moderate foreign policy towards it's neighbors, then Indian and Bangladeshi armed forces may become friends and co-operate to meet the security challenges. We do not seek enmity with any country least with India.

In my opinion, BD should spend more on internal security and intelligence. BD has more security threat from Inside. Jamatis and other elements who are dormant now may become active any time. It is heavy hand dealing of Hasina which has kept them in control. They can get reactive any time to wreck havoc. BD need to be very careful. They have a vibrant growing economy.
