SLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz on Monday said that Pakistan should not target militants who do not threaten the country’s security.

“Why should America’s enemies unnecessarily become our enemies,” Sartaj Aziz said during an interview with BBC Urdu.

"When the United States attacked Afghanistan, all those that were trained and armed were pushed towards us.

“Some of them were dangerous for us and some are not. Why must we make enemies out of them all?,” he said when speaking about the Haqqani Network.

He further said that the Afghan Taliban are Afghanistan’s problem and Haqqani Network is a part of it.

“It’s the job of the Afghan government to negotiate with them...We can try to convince them, however things are not the same as they were in the nineties,” Aziz said.

When speaking about COAS Raheel Sharif’s visit to the United States, the adviser to the PM said that relations between Pakistan and the US are improving.

This is simply a matter of priority. Any country facing a massive amount of terrorism will first look to classify militant groups by the level of threat they are.

It would be something like this:
TTP, Jundullah and LEJ are killing innocent civilians in Pakistan, our priority should be hunting them down first.
Only then does the LET, Hizbul Mujahideen come. We need to focus on priorities.

Also I don't usually do comparisons but in India there is a problem too. Indians generally do not take action against Hindutvadis. The difference between our countries is this. Right wing terrorists (Like the TTP) are hunted down and killed in Pakistan. Despite the losses we continue to fight against terrorism where other nations may have given up. India did not take action against RSS even though it was an RSS member that shot Gandhi.

Selection of better words was expected from a seasoned bureaucrat and politician such as Aziz. However, he has grown very old and should refrain from giving interviews on sensitive issues.

So what he is saying, is the ones killing shia and other minorities should be left alone. @haviZsultan Problem is pakistani politicians don't think terrorism is a priority.

good terrorist bad terrorist theory again???

a terrorist is a terrorist ............mindless thugs who will kill without any remorse

I think he wanted to say first kill hardcore terrorists which can cause a lot of harm to Pakistan then target others.

Spoken like a true patriot. May his tribe grow.

On another note, Pakistan doesn't support terrorists in other countries. It only provides 'moral and diplomatic support' to 'freedom fighters'. It is only those who carry attacks inside Pakistan that are terrorists. Others attacking India, China, US, Iran and minorities within Pakistan are all freedom fighters with genuine grievances.

can you suggest a solution for RSS? They have more than 40,000 branches all over India and are responsible for every ills of our society. They are openly running terrorist factory in our motherland with full support from our govt. and sadly there is no concept of good terrorist and bad terrorist in RSS. All of them are bad ones. Some of these bad.. bad.. terrorists have also penetrated the PDF. This guy @SarthakGanguly is one of them. Mods must take action against this guy. How can they allow this terrorist on PDF?

Right wings in India dont carry AK 47 and suicide vests.Dont need to drag India in to this .Subject is not about India. It is about Pakistan.and NSA decision was a practical one. They cant target entire militants.
