RAWALPINDI: A militant ploy to attack the Benazir Bhutto International Airport and the Pakistan Air Force’s Chaklala Air Base was foiled by security personnel who were on high alert, Express News reported on Thursday.

At least 18 militants dressed in police uniform arrived at the airport in three high-roof cars in the early hours of the morning. The cars used were also made to look like they belonged to the police, with sirens and revolving lights.

The militants tried to enter the airport taking the DIG’s name, however, the security staff did not let them through stating they had received no information or letter regarding such an arrival.

Once the Airport Security Force (ASF) counter checked with police officials, they learned that the DIG was sleeping at his residence.

Details suggested that the militants had wireless technology to listen to communications between the ASF and police officials as they escaped the second they heard that the DIG was sleeping at his residence.

There was allegedly no time for any action, as the militants sped off once they learnt their ploy had been discovered.

A search operation is underway at the airport, the base and nearby residential areas in search of the militants. No information regarding their location has been found as of yet.

Benazir Airport and Chaklala Air Base have been on red alert since last night and more security precautions are being undertaken.

As part of heightened security measures, only ticket-holding passengers are being allowed access into the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

Since the runway is shared by both the airport and the base, it would have been easy for the militants to cross into the Chaklala Air Base.

Once again, a very planned attack.

Wow! :woot:

These guys are getting more brazen by the day! Their new tactic seems to be to masquerade as the police so they don't raise suspicion. It's going to be tough to distinguish between the real and the phoney! :undecided:

pakistan must close shops that sell army/ police uniform to civilians and must be under govt's control. A person buying army/ police uniform must present his identity card and a bar code must be engraved/ printed on the dress.. (on chest)..

Its a FAILED STATE... the sign of COMPLETE FALURE of the Intel ... they don't even have any information regarding planing... 3 high-roof.... entered Airport.... and thn left... Now no one knowz where they are now!!

Khaki pant, black shirt or black pant/shirt or similar accessories can be bought from any garment store .. not necessarily a military store.

18 terrorists escaped....... they will attack any other airbase in coming days, possibly during the night of Shab-e-Qadr (as they did last year) ...That's certain ...

Due to intelligence reports, the ASF was alert and their plan was foiled..

Terrorists are also planning attacks on Adiala Jail & Haripur Jail ...

nothing new... tried and tested in punjab and kashmir... lol.

Something seems amiss here...anyways, good thing if it did happen. Good to know that the ASF didn't just let every other guy with a uniform go through.

Terrorists should have been caught though.

I just went through Isl airport a couple of days back! Security is pretty tight in that place, especially with the PAF, SPD, MoD facilities nearby.

It's been a year that only ticket holding passengers and relatives are allowed through. But to think of it, buying a ticket for 16k is no big deal considering that terrorists spend millions in prep of the attack.

Its a big failure that they escaped!! If not caught, they'll come back again. I guess its time your army should start training Police for COIN operations if not already!!

FOILED my a$$ .. it was lucky day for the security as militants over heard the conversation and took off or their would have been carnage if they wanted to attack.
