What's new

Milestone: In 2021,Chinese capital city Beijing makes clean air grade for first time since air quality monitored

Well I guess you should immediately start bowing to the US Government now because if you waltz on over to the US embassy page in India you can see the numbers.

click on the down arrows on the cities listed and you will see the current reading.

That's why lots of Asians in China/India/Whatever are moving West

Well I'm glad you are pointing that out too.

Fixing bad Government PR obviously

It's like a rooster taking credit for the sunrise. You are not helping, buddy.

Who says the people didn't know about it? They have eyes and could see it. The thing is the Chinese government was not posting PM2.5 numbers and others like the US embassy were.

What was the Chinese Government afraid of with those PM2.5 numbers since it was actively asking foreign embassies to stop posting them. Why should they care about some figure on the corner of an embassy webpage?

Unless of course the curious/concerned Chinese people were peeking at the page to see the number. :enjoy:

because they didn't see the need for that reading initially? like everyone is telling you, the pollution issue is gradual, it did not appear overnight, it appeared over decades, so its not like they had the machines and air indexes in place but hid the data because of some evil plot to deceive the people who could see for themselves what the air is like even without a official air quality reading, heck china was originally giving out pm10 readings, and if people were dead set on getting numbers they could buy their own machines. the readings for pm2.5 were not seen as critical, then the us cried about it and the government decided sure, we can put some monitoring stations up, it doesn't hurt and that was that. but china's clean up efforts were decades in the making and taking more and more seriously(and got more political support and funding) as the pollution got worse. it had exactly nothing to do with the us crying about it. the us cries about chinese nukes too, but i don't see china giving them up just because the us said so. unfortunately for you china isnt japan and will not be dictated by the us.

Exactly..and somebody pointed out that they did need it to give the populace a better understanding of the problem's seriousness...to the ire of those in power.

Now this thread highlights that PM2.5 reading..not some other reading that was considered adequate.

Polution alleviation is directly related to development. China is more or less a near-developed country, hence, environment has recovered.

The pattern is: You first pollute to develop. Then, you clean up.

Tragedy is you pollute without industrialization, then you have no technology or finance to clean up.

If the US professional bleeding heart were factor, then, please deploy it to India, or San Francisco's back streets. They are dirty and smell defecation.

if you are saying the us posting pm2.5 numbers led in part, after chinese public pressure, the chinese government to set up its own stations and post said number themselves. Then we can agree.

however that was not what you said before.

you said one;

and i quote
" Ah yes over 10 years in the making due to the US Embassy squealing on your government's hiding of the seriousness of your PM2.5 pollution issue."

suggesting that china was hiding its pollution rather than already having plans place, implementing those plans and giving out pm10 reading but just didnt have the pm2.5 set up yet.

and two:

" Then when the Olympics were over the usual bad skies rolled back in and any complaints went unheeded...until a few years later when the US embassy started embarrassing the CCP by posting the PM2.5 numbers...and caused an uproar...and some action to be taken."

that the us embassy posting pm numbered led directly to the chinese government taking action on pollution after ignoring and hiding the issue prior to that, thus suggesting that the US should claim all the credit for any improvement on chinese pollution.
which again is clearly false as there are programs and projects in place decades ago and more and more is being done as time passes as more chinese get cars and overall get richer and thus pollute more.

those two quotes are where you are wrong.
