Japanese immigration scheme has come under fire for widespread reports of the exploitation of workers. The BBC spoke to migrant workers who claim they were overworked and underpaid and found some were making clothes for big, international brands. And as the BBC's Population Reporter Stephanie Hegarty found, workers in other industries have reported abuses such as unsafe working environments and bullying.

I think china is much better place than japan for factory workers

As much as I like Japan, the country is one of the most racist countries on the Planet. They despise foreigners, if you look at their demographics they have very low immigrant population (1.5%) compared to any other industrialized countries. Even with low fertility and large aging population they are a stubborn bunch, who are still living in the ancient ways of the samurai insuring their own decline.

At least they have a good entertainment industry though, they make good anime, but they can't even do that right most of the time.. stupid otaku's spoiling it for the rest of us..

I more like to say "domestic worker protection" than a racism

The act is to prptect their own, saving more jobs for home man and women rather to foreigner, but for profesional and skilled worker or white collar labour japan doing good with them, nothing discriminated AFAIK

But they have a large shortage of low skilled jobs, which require immigrants, either that or they move their factories abroad. so its not that they're 'saving jobs for home' they cannot fill these posts even if they wanted to, they could help ease it if they remedy the 'Hikikomori phenomenon' and/or increase female participation but even that would take years, and they have failed miserably thus far.

There is actually a documentary on Japan hiring long term Northern Chinese staff for their lower level service industry. The Chinese said in the video that Japan prefer their people but since there is non available they are force to hire N Chinese nurse. It looks like she is young and has stay on for years already.

There is also a young Chinese guy from the North as well, don't know if that is a indication they are trying to increase their population with N Chinese since they already have 15% to 20% N Chinese DNA in Japan.

Yes japan culture burden for women workers in some parts still exists, not forget to mention their relocated industry to many places, just to make more efficient on industry, thats a big problem since the relocated industry dont apply the japan home act, more over CMT style production on textile and clothing by far is the worst, AFAIK those who cheating on the act will be punish but all the industrial mode involved a broker, a state and individual one. So its make a workers ptotection event harder because its far from the main company, and the using of CMT or contracted factory abroad japan

Objectively speaking, there are good employers and there are bad employers, and Japan is no exception.

We must understand Japanese work culture and their expectation of foreign workers. A hardworking boss will demand the same hardworking attitude from his workers. Japanese are not only very hardworking people, they are also very detail in their works. Thus if a foreign worker from a country that is not known for hardworking and paying no attention to details of their works will not face well from their Japanese employer. The foreign workers will naturally complain the hard demands from their boss as discrimination, though such work demand applies as well to local Japanese workers who do not complain (as they have accepted this work culture).

However, this does not mean foreign workers don't face discrimination, the Yakuza nowadays control many large corporations in Japan, they even have big influence over the country's politicians. Exploitation of foreign workers is thus not unexpected. The unfortunate workers hired by the Yakuza controlled companies would face long hours doing hard and dirty jobs with little pay, and harsh living accommodation.

The complaining bunch should all be deported back.
What did the immigrants expect? be able to half-*** their jobs and work as they please and get paid shitloads for being inefficient?
