Growlers/F-18E/F are also best options , but we will not go for that this one is finalized .

guys no point in bringing other fighters in to this topic... becuase navy is finalised Mig29k deal and it is on it is way.........

and let the investigation complete then we can see......

thanks i may have been wrong about the size change part. But if the F-35B is on probation and may be cancelled then the two new STOVL carriers of Spain and Italy are two small to operate F-35C????

And then Sea Typhoon will never fly cause we wont buy it it's not fit for CATOBAR operation.

Again buddy, it's not the size of the carriers that is the problem, but the layout! Neither the Italians, nor the Spanish (which are not a partner in the F35 project anyway) have carriers designed for arrested landings and that's why no other fighters except Sea Harriers, or F35Bs can be used on them!
UK had the advantage, that they are building new carriers and still had the time to change the layout of the carrier, that's why they could switch to F35C, which is not possible for Italy, or the USMC as well.

It's not on it's future road map, but the UK made some studies to redesign the EF to use them on their new carriers and these studies are the base for the Sea Typhoon that is on offer for IN in their MMRCA competition. No other partner, or potential export customer shows interest in this version, because it would be highly expensive and not very capable. The EF was simply not designed to be a carrier fighter and while the gear and airframe could be strengthened to make it at least usefull for STOBAR carriers, there would be too many changes needed to make it a real alternative.

Apparently 500kg was the penalty for STOBAR..

No need to ground MiG 29K jet, Russia tells India

New Delhi: Russia has informed India that the crash of a MiG 29K fighter jet, which was manufactured for the Indian Navy, was due to pilot error and there was no need for it to ground its such planes here.

India had sought clarifications from Russia after a MiG-29KUB twin-seater fighter, which was part of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier deal, crashed in south Russian Astrakhan region yesterday killing its two-member crew.

"The Russians have told us that the crashed aircraft went through an extreme manoeuvre due to pilot error which resulted in the accident and there was no need for us to ground our aircraft," a senior Naval officer told PTI here.

He said the aircraft was coming back to its base after carrying out weapon trials when the crash took place.

India had placed orders for 16 MiG 29Ks from Russia under a deal worth over USD 900 million in 2004 and some of these planes have already been inducted into service at Goa.

India had said if there was a technical reason behind the crash, it would also consider grounding its fleet of the aircraft.

The Russian Defence Ministry had grounded the entire MiG-29K fleet on June 23 after the incident.

India is the only customer of the Russian-built MiG-29K, 45 of which will be inducted into service in next few years at Navy's INS Hansa air base and will be operated from the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier.

Thanks again hate to be a thread digger SO u'r saying That the main problem is Flight-deck layout which is currently designed only for STOVL operation
but unless i'm mistaken the Layout is changeable to STOBAR/CATOBAR. There would still be a Particular required amount of length of the deck required for fully loaded EFT/F-35C Take-off and landing which might not be available?????
