To improve self-sufficiency, why doesn't pakistan initiate with Russia licenced production of Mig-29 within Pakistan??

The Mig-29 is a capable aircraft which can be utilised by developing countries. It would also enable Pakistan to reduce reliance on only U.S. for aircraft.

To reduce complexity and different types of planes, all mig-21 and similar old aircraft should be retired early and replaced with around 30 Mig-29, 150 FC-1 and and the number of F-16 should only be maintained.

Do people agree or disagree??

PAF need to acquire a license and or ToT for the production of MiG-29 from Russia which is highly impossible.

Besides it will be quite premature for the Pakistani industries to produce the MiG-29 under ToT.

Thanks,

Miro

do they still produce Mig-29's ?

They do, with the latest configurations for example different type of technology for different type of role. For example OVT has the capablity to stop in the air, and have a very high thurst rate. If you have heard about news India getting Mig-29 OVT those are correct, the aircraft is also known as Mig-35. The normal Mig-29 variant without the special thurst capability is known as Mig-29 SMT it has a multirole capablity but of course not good as other multirole aircrafts which were designed to be one.

Please note Mig-29 OVT aka Mig-35 does not exist yet, it is only an offer given to India for its MRCA. Mig-35 can become a reality if India approves it, otherwise it will remain in pages, unless some other country is interested in it, and is ready to invest, because Russian aviation cannot take a risk of going with the project and fail it because of the economical reasons.

They do manufacture this type of Mig which is Mig29 but I just hate when they change the name of the fighter after every upgradation this is not the case with the US and Chineese planes. If F-16 is upgraded then it will be called F-16X ( where X is an alphabet which represent the version ) they dont call it F-17 or some thing else and the Chineese Q-5 which is A-5 in PAF when upgraded it is named as Q-5X ( again same mentiond earlier).
And also the single Flanker without having upgradation which is simple Su-27 costs about 25-30M$ but the Su30MKK costs 50M$ a piece. It does has the near about performance with the US F-15s but it is getting costly with the upgradations.

Same is the case with the Migs, the russians on every upgradation change the name like they have done with the Mig-29OVT.It has the same damn airframe mounted with new avionics and can land vertically but in the past Mig29 has a lot many complaints like its spares fell off during the flight and other issues.
