MiG-21 crashes near Halwara, pilot safe

It would be interesting to know the variant of mig 21 that crashed. I believe currently were only operating Bis and Bison upgrades of mig 21. We know that expect for bisons rest of the mig 21s will be removed from services by next 2 years however mig 21 bisons will be operational till 2025.

It says clearly in the article, its a MiG-21M (designated as Type 88 / 96). This is an improved type 77 produced by HAL from 1971-1981. Definitely one of the older variants, iirc, marked for phasing out soon.

Oh dear, your crash rate in the past few months seems to have outstripped the rate of induction of new aircraft. Fortunately the pilot has been safe enough. I wonder what a nightmare it would be for Indians to consider joining their air force with such a callous attitude of your government towards the lives of your pilots.

If this were to happen in Europe, people would strip their governments down in minutes like a typical democracy.
