Middle Eastern Christians Flee Violence for Ancient Homeland of Orthodoxy

To be fair to him the thread has already gone pretty off topic.

Even Russia and China have sold arms to Qatar on some occasions.

They should have never get dragged in Syrian affairs.Let's be fair,if the majority of the population wants you gone, you're gone, just look at our example with Ceausescu. There's no need for foreign intervention.

Syrian village is 'liberated' by rebels... who then forced Christians to convert to Islam\

The beautiful mountain village, 25 miles from Damascus, is one of the few places in the world where residents still use the ancient language of Aramaic, which was spoken by Jesus and his disciples.

Well, tough luck. Now they will speak Arabic. :coffee:

how about you recognize the greek socialist revolutionaries who are taking direct-action against symbols of capitalism. :coffee:
He says opposing is democracy, but he told me before that why Syria is opposing the west?? What happened to democracy??

Well, tough luck. Now they will speak Arabic. :coffee:
They do speak Arabic and Aramaic, and the Syrian army liberated the town from those terrorists...

I have been saying this for years, if Syrians wanted Alasad gone he would have been gone long time ago... Nothing can stop the will of the people... Alasad wouldn't stand a chance against Syrian people + the west + others.. How can he stand against the Syrian people??

@Nihonjin1051 If you are devout, you should visit the remaining places of worship in those places. Future is bleak, I am afraid. I have faced the same feeling that you do.

Thank God. :) That's a good news.

Syria should consider signing a peace treaty with Israel like Egypt. Their Arab brethren are only hell bent to bleed her. It's much better to go alone instead. Peace with Israel will free a lot of troops that can be deployed to tackle both the FSA and the ISIS terrorists. Israel is at best a probable external threat. FSA+ISIS is much worse.

.
It's simple, Syria is peaceful country, but a righteous country, yes this war could have been easily been avoided by simple kneeling down to the west's demands and accepting their rule and giving up Syria's sovereignty... But that's not us, we stand firm with what's is right, Israel stole our lands, peace was about to be achieved with Israel if Israel accepted to give back Golan and return to 67 borders, but that didn't happen because Israel doesn't want peace...
You're saying Syria made a mistake by being an ally with Iran? It is an honor, Iran is independent country that stands with out righteous cause and calls for the return of our land...

How can we forget about our stolen lands??

See you yourself said it, Bahrain is your ally and same with rest of gcc countries, and yet the west wants to spread "democracy" only in Syria and countries that are sovereign and not under their command??

Man, hopefully one day peace will be restored and you will be able to visit Syria, the roman theater in Basra is beautiful, and Damascus the oldest inhabitant city in the world is pure beauty..

do you know that germany, austria and italy voted against sending any arms to syrian rebels and because of this busted them?

I assure you that nobody here has something against syria. Look...as i said...we share our history. I´m italian. You are syrian. We both have the same ancestors. Maybe one of yours and one of mine served as comrades in the roman army. We are the same people. Mediterraneans.

Voting is something and actions is something else... Those countries you mentioned don't send weapons but allow others to send weapons or just sit by idly..

You and I are brothers in Christ!
Philip the Arab is on Syria's national currency :-)

you mention ceausescu... maybe you will see this differently but here is one view of the end of communist government in romania...

IV. My personal experience: The 1989 Romanian Coup

I was in Romania during the 1989 so called «people’s revolution» under dictator Ceausescu. In fact, it was a 100% Western coup, with the sole purpose of looting the country of its wealth!

There were hundreds of reasons for the Romanian coup to take place. First of all, Ceausescu was a communist & pro-USSR.

- Romania had no external debt + US $2.7 billions in the National Bank + around US $10 billion to receive from other countries from exports (in 1989!). The exports were rapidly increasing.

- Romania was mass-exporting cereals, wine, weapons (especially the PKM), ammunition, etc. — while keeping the imports low.

- Romania also had oil fields and all the petrol used was internaly produced.

- Romania’s gold exploitation gave a $5 billions/year profit and the country’s gold reserve was fairly big (tens of tons). The gold mines were expanding.

- All Romanians had jobs, the unemployment was 0%, all had cars, homes and savings in the National bank. Even though the communist state had major expenses (it was building roads, apartment buildings, factories, etc.), the country was getting wealthier each year.

When the coup started, Ceausescu was abroad, negotiating with some Arab countries the establishment of the first European Bank. Imagine that! Romania was about to become a world player. Fairly rich & with a solid economy.

No one is against peace, except Israel, the Arabs Israeli conflict can easily end if Israel return to pre 1967 borders, and israelis themselves don't want peace with Syria, one of the reason Rabin was assassinate is because of almost peace deal with Syria... Israel wants a peace deal in exchange of Syria giving up its lands and Palestinian lands... Jordan and Egypt agreed, but Syria can't agree to such thing...

That is not true. Germany for example did stop the entire process of EU to decide about weapon shipment.

I don´t know about Golan. Its difficult. The EU does not see it as israeli area. We support Israel but not for evry action they do. Hamas will be put off the EU terror list for example.

Hamas are going back on soon. It was only a technicality.

it is a big article with pictures.

There are true and there are false facts in your article:

False:

1.Not all Romanians had cars,in fact it would take years for a Romanian to get approval for a car-Exports took precedent.

2.Ceausescu was not pro USSR,quite the opposite.

True:

1.By 1989 Romania had 0 national debt.
2.Romania was in the top 10 weapons exporters of the world.

All in all,Ceausescu had good policies of modernisation and industrialisation in the 60's-70's but that's because he had good councilors. In the 80's he removed them and dreamed to have a personality cult like Mao.He ignored the dangers of not modernising the huge industry even with Western investments and technology which were offered and wanted to pay all the national debt .For that to happen he starved us all, literally starved us,electricity was cut, food was nowhere to be found.Everything went for export to earn hard currency:food, weapons, energy, our industry at the beginning of the 90's was huge but some of it absolete and highly costly.

Yes,we had money, but we had nothing to buy with them as everything was exported.Butter was promoted as very healthy instead of meat, lol.

Not to say that the country couldn't have been modernised after 1989 instead of robbing it blind...but that's another long story.

There are true and there are false facts in your article:

thanks for your calm reply.

1.Not all Romanians had cars,in fact it would take years for a Romanian to get approval for a car-Exports took precedent.

won't you say that is bureaucratic inefficiency?? in india in the 80's and 90's, anyone wanting a telephone ( landline ) would been put in a long long waiting list.

2.Ceausescu was not pro USSR,quite the opposite.

but he did not form a new bloc like tito did with yugoslavia and "non aligned movement"...

2.Romania was in the top 10 weapons exporters of the world.

that should be shameful for a country like india which has a big industrial base but nothing much of worth really.

In the 80's he removed them and dreamed to have a personality cult like Mao.

your view is generally shared by the writer of that article, who seems a westerner... would be interesting to read the memoirs of a key member of the romanian communist party.

He ignored the dangers of not modernising the huge industry even with Western investments and technology which were offered and wanted to pay all the national debt.

maybe he didn't want to get western companies to over-run romania... there must be valid reasons for his declining of their offers.

For that to happen he starved us all, literally starved us,electricity was cut, food was nowhere to be found.

Butter was promoted as very healthy instead of meat, lol.

surely, those two are not true... you would have been too young in the 80's to remember this ( if your birth year is 1984 ).
