Michelle Obama forgoes a headscarf and sparks a backlash in Saudi Arabia

.
That was to highlight the hypocrisy.. and to answer the poster who is obviously Pakistani.. So ok replace that with any non white non western woman

if they went with bottles of whisky and a suit-case of heroin they would get away too most likely.....that's what it means to be an American presidential couple they can do pretty much anything they like

And Saudi man handed shake with Michelle, how hypocrisy. Saudi men doesn't shake hands with female foreginers?

Actually to many Saudis who do not really know western culture, shaking a woman's hand is extremely disrespectful to her. Also looking at a woman straight is considered disrespectful to her. Many western woman are taken a back and see it as an insult. When in fact it is the opposite.

No disrespect meant, but how do your women adjust when they go abroad for studies and such? Guys I can understand.

these are cultural nuances which they should be informed about prior to visiting....but i think media as usual making bigger deal of it than they need to - like its a celebrity gossip magazine or something. Sometimes media is like paparazzi guys

For both men and woman the first few months are spent in culture shock. But they eventually adjust, many saudi women there for the first few months will never shake hands with any man because again it is disrespectful, Saudi Arabia has some of the most strict social and cultural practices rules. Something as simple as receiving a drink of coffee by your left hand is considered an insult to the host.

There is a long long list of traditions that are complicated even to those born in Saudi Arabia. One of the father's jobs is to reach his sons these social norms. And one of the things I was taught is never to reach my hand to shake hands with a woman because it is disrespectful to her and her family to do so.

Lesser issues? People were executed for a lesser issue? Show them to me or stop taking out of your *** Immediately.
