Mexico positive toward Japan’s UNSC seat bid

Japan has been a non-permanent member in the UNSC about 10 times. We have, through auspices of legal charter and economic assistance, been a force for change and peace these some 70 years. I see no reason why there will be a divorce from our established norm in activity and policy. If ANY nation looks at our curriculum vitae in regards to human rights , and humanitarian aid, they will realize Japan's abundant acts of mercies, and commitment to peace and its restitution.Japan has been investing and helping to develop nations.

@xunzi , do read the article and see the entire continuity of the message before making an acute charge.

Thanks.
Brother, you have to understand this. Non-permanent is okay. To be permanent, Japan needs to ask itself a serious question. What would adding Japan into the mix would do anything to protect the world from global war?

This generation of Japanese did nothing wrong but many goodness to the world. Even Abe doesn't relate to ww2.

Precisely. Even the grandfather (Abe Kan) of Abe Shinzo was an anti-war politician during the war.

Abe's grandfather served as PM of Japan after Japan concluded the surrender terms with the US/ Allied Powers.

And it was Abe's family that helped in the rebuilding of Japan.

People around the world do not know this.

It should be emphasized upon.

@Nihonjin1051
The day they fear Japan could pose threat to world peace, they will start to target Japan
If japan is successful in fending the first weave of attack, they will offer you a permanent seat
clearly two nations, france and UK are too weak to be in P5
I see germany a strong contender for permanent seat, one which all will agree too

Japan is politically inline with US.

Japan veto power in UNSC will be useless and worthless.

What is the point to add one more vote if US and Japan opinion are the same over global issue? Can you answer it Nihonjin?

India deserves to be an UN member first, not because we have great economy or big military power. A country with billion people must be a permanent representative in the UN.

I agree. I believe that France should be removed from the P5. Their economy and population is but a fraction of Japan's.

Even Germany, in all fields, is inferior to that of Japan's.

-----------------

France's population: 66 million
Economy: $2.3 trillion

Germany's population: 80 million
Economy: $3.3 trillion

VS

Japan's population: 128 million
Economy: $4.8 Trillion

Maybe so, but who will replace France?

Japan - Bad relations with PRC so unlikely
Germany - Maybe, but it is just another European state.
India - Smaller economy and military spending than France
Brazi - Same with India.

I believe India is most deserving because It will soon have the largest population in the world. We'll see in 10-15 years.

Edit: I think your GDP data might be a year or 2 outdated. According to IMF 2013
1.USA: 16.80 Trillion
2.PRC: 9.18 Trillion
3.Japan: 4.90 Trillion
4.Germany: 3.64 Trillion
5.France: 2.74 Trillion
6.UK: 2.54 Trillion
7.Brazil: 2.24 Trillion
8.Russia: 2.12 Trillion
9.Italy 2.07 Trillion
10.India 1.87 Trillion

India should aim to be #3 economy before making a case of permanent member of UNSC. I believe that will happen by 2030, when India will be shining.

Nothing will change now or ever. "Changes" have been talked about for the best part of 30 years and we still are at square 1 and will be so for the foreseeable future.

My points still stand; the economies of both France and Germany are but a fraction of Japan. We are going to hit the $5 Trillion mark.

Germany is considered the "economic power house" of Europe. Well, Germany's economy is dwarfed by that of Japan's. And the difference will only increase. Germany's GNP growth forecast is at 0.7%, whereas Japan's is at 1.4%.

So, you do the math.

:-)
