Merkel profits from russian agression

Chancellor Merkels popularity is aon a new high since the russian agression against ukraine. People see her as sucessful negotiator between Ukraine and Putin. Her party CDU gets 42% agreement in polls and did rise 2% compared to last week. The more pro russian party like "Die Linke" lose in the current situation and only get 10% agreement

The Germans are rewarding her for saving German lives by not messing with the Bear and pretending everything is A-OK.

Playing to be a "global power" is all nice and good in make-believe land but, in reality, there are only two global powers: US and Russia.

P.S. And please don't say "we got 80% of Ukraine". The point is that a brazen highway robbery is occurring in Ukraine, right within Europe, and the only thing EU can do is to shake their heads.

russia is not a global power. It doesn´t even have a functional economy. Our foreign minister Steinmeier called it basicly a Nigeria with nuclear weapons. A primitive society depending 100% on selling rescources

Your view on diplomacy is quite incorrect, infact Merkel does evrything to impose sanctions on Russia no matter at what cost, she said what we see in Crimea is an annexion and that she does not accept this and i support this hawkish stand.

As you can read in this article, USA can do nothing in this situation and bases all faith in Merkel to find an acceptable solution.

Russia is not global power. Global in global power means that you have a long enough arm to exercise influence all over the world. Only US army has that kind of army and logistics. With the fall of Soviets, Ruskies lost their super power status. They got downgraded to regional power.

Russia couldn´t even hold Ukraine which we cut out of their influence. I don´t think Merkel even wants Putin to lay off Crimea. Merkel is smart enough to know reality and i think she realizes that her idea to integrate russia into europe has failed. Merkel always believed that it is important to make russia a partner and to prevent a new cold war. It was germany that pulled russia into the G8 for this reason. All this failed and russia has become a rogue state and acts more and more like North Korea. It is doubtful that russia can stay in the G8

What you are saying is that, in order to appease Russia, Merkel just threw Ukraine under the bus.

EU and Turkey had a hard time in last two years. I think that russian agression can fix alot of dispute between our nations. We both know that the Tartars in Crimean will be treated like dirt. To be honest i don´t like how Erdogan handeles this conflict. You hear nothing from him. Maybe he is too busy with his corruption scandals. But i think Turkey should play a bigegr role now.
