I feel like they may have surrendered on purpose, to get away from the war. It wouldn't be the first time. I remember reading that this was quite a frequent thing during the Soviet Afghan war.

Pictures of ANA soldiers captured by Taliban not Pakistan Army. Skirmishes on the border are usually long range firefights and mortar exchanges, it's extremely hard to "capture" your opponent.
