There is another (unheard of) explanation. Leading minds such as Tesla's Elon Musk believe we are not living in base reality. Hence it would a possibility that there was a massive artificial intelligence failure, causing the breakdown of the fabric of reality.

Something like a 9.11.1 bug (if you are familiar with the millennium bug)

This would be backed up by science, a cyclic multiverse.
