Australia does have some of the most stringent checks, that is if you are coming in through proper channels.

But there is little any govt can do when it's refugees and people who are married to a Australian citizen.
Checks or no checks these 2 grey areas means they WILL come in.

Australia has strict laws in coming into the country but it also has its loopholes like you said marriage and refugees.

I think Australia should not take in people from war torn countries.
