Yes and no....MOST dramas follow the typical style damsel in distress...But there are some that empower women or revolve around current issues in society...You just need to pick and choose...Like for sure you dont watch every HOLLYWOOD movie...a very small portion makes it to the world as we know it....While MANY get rejected or doesnt become popular!

They did make it before like Alpha Bravo and Dhuwan and many more like them.

Udaari (equal focus is on child abuse), Dastaan (which also has some love story but majority is abt partitioning), adha chehra (acid burn victim), Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan (problems, betrayal, pain), Tabeer (ups and downs in life), Bay Dardi (about AIDS and how society sees it)

It is basic psychology...you cant tell a "story" (drama or movie) that only goes 1 tragedy after another (sure some drama do that) but even life isnt ALWAYS a downhill path, you have happiness, love and betrayal...

O no it does! The ONLY difference is not ALL love stories are bought by you...There is a variety of choices...but each still has some love story! Then you have full love stories that you call chick flick! Then you have serious agenda but still with love stories....Just coz you dont see it or the movie ends in say 2 hrs rather than 20 episodes doesnt mean the love part didnt exist!

Because the target audience IS women...women who sit at home doing nothing....DOCTOR BAHU who sit at home doing nothing! Fassadi MOTHER IN LAWS who sit at home doing nothing! RICH women who have maids and sit at home doing nothing!

THERE is a big population of audience in these categories!

That's where they get it wrong and that's the reason men watch a lot of news in Pakistan.
The conditions are similar in western countries as well women sitting at home, but their target audience is everyone. Which makes them a lot of more money.

I dont think men in Pakistan need a reason to watch news...Even when they know the sensationalizing nature of the news is psychologically bad for human beings!

aactual story start after few episode...try to watch it and I think every patriot Pakistani should watch it because it has great lesson for people. It just tell you how we don't value our country which we got after a lot of sacrifices and we got it for a reason . It address how we failed to achieve the actual purpose behind getting a new nation. Idealist bano who thought Pakistan would be ideal place end up in jail and suffered worst fate in Pakistan then what she went through in the process of partition and migration

Pakistani drame revolve around families because that's what most women in our society prefer to watch it because they could relate to it..they will not watch science fiction, horror or other genre

The BBC has a similar Drama named EastEnders running since 1985 and it's still going, their main target audience is women as it involves the same kind of house hold bickering and women fighting with each other, but at the same time BBC produces Sherlock one of the best TV shows of all time.

Breaking Bad (it's rated as the best TV series of all time but I have a different favorite)
WestWorld (again this is one of the best shows ever and number one according to me)

This list can go very long but my basic point is not this.
I wan't to see some creativity in Pakistani entertainment, as at the end of the day I love my country and wan't to see some good Shows coming out of their. Their needs to be a shift, off course you will have some family drama in a movie or TV show but it doesn't need to be the focal point of the whole story. When will we get to see some thriller which sends chills down our spine or an action movie which doesn't defy the basic laws of physics.

We need to make movies which make us think and imagine. Like when you watch Interstellar it's a movie but it makes you think of the future and space and the unimaginably vast possibilities of space travel and even the major disasters approaching us cause of climate change. Most of that is not even possible in real world, but just a movie makes you think all that.
When you watch Inception it stays with you for years and you keep trying to think what did the ending really mean. Game of Thrones is such a good entertainer that you keep wanting more of it and you can watch it again and again but it never gets boring.
I want this type of entertainment from Pakistan which takes your mind into a different reality and yet it's simple and makes sense. They don't have to be the best, but they could at least try to be different.
I hope some sense prevails and we finally come out of this "boy meets girl" story lines.

I think it has less to do with audience and more with the Bollywood obsession of the people in control.
If something good is made people will like it and yes the lack of creative minds is one of the biggest contributor.
Good movies or TV series don't need budget but story and direction. They are just following the Indian model of 5 Songs of which 1 item number and rest of it is a damsel in distress saved by a macho hero or the classic saas and bahu.

People do experiment with a different content it fails always the audience is pretty clear on what it wants you can hope for a more hollywood touch but thats not what the public desires look at youtube figures

Every single movie or drama is a love story, no thriller, no sci fi, no crime, no action and many more like these.
Nothing absolutely nothing all they can think of is one boy one girl end of story.

Well like many institutions in Pakistan, media is also run by a small group of people. For new people and ideas there isnt a welcoming hand!
