Mehrajuddin Dand, Kandahar hijack suspect, arrested in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar: Mehrajuddin Dand, the militant operating in Jammu and Kashmir for over 20 years, has been arrested by the police.
Mehrajuddin alias Javed was arrested in the Kishtwar district.
He is suspected to be involved in many terror activities including the Kandahar plane hijack and several other blasts across the country. In the Kandahar hijack, he had reportedly provided fake travel documents and logistical support to the hijackers.
Mehrajuddin is also believed to be a top man of the Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and an important fund raiser.
Sources say he was among the first group of Hizbul Mujahideen that crossed into Pakistan for training. They also say that Mehrajuddin is considered to be the right-hand man of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.
Government sources say Mehrajuddin did not belong to any one militant outfit, and acted as a coordinator among various militant outfits.
Mehrajuddin was allegedly living in Nepal with a Hindu name to conceal his identity, and was also married there.
