Roads were allowed to be built by various agreements between India and Bangladesh/East Pakistan up to the zero point.

Bangladeshis are bullshitting about the 150 yards thing. That is applicable once permanent border pillars are constructed, even then the locals want fencing to be done on the zero point.

But Central government has a different view altogether. They want to construct the fence 150 yards inside of the zero point for security purposes to properly identify Bangladeshi smugglers and terrorists that intrude into Meghalaya.

Here the importance of these roads arise. We want the border roads to run parallel to the fence but at present it's in a criss cross manner and cuts through the border at several points. 150 yard distance is needed to realign the roads in some areas and install floodlights.

BSF were present and there was a BSF post which was vacated to allow road construction.

This is a defence forum and I thought everyone knows that jet planes fly over the sky, ships swim over the water, and tanks over almost any terrain excluding steep mountains like the Himalaya. But, you are telling, "No, it is not true tanks need highway and not village roads".
