Featured Meeting of diplomats of two neighbouring countries: Delhi distracted, Pakistan at play

@Joe Shearer can enlighten all on just how reluctant PM Indira Gandhi was for the longest time to get involved. Selfish enterprise indeed. Guess operation searchlight was very non-selfish.

But then again, I suppose its that deep down final resignation there is not any threat in the East since it's been "neutralized"....after all that superficial stronking about over here this long too
No, PM Indira Gandhi was waiting for the winter to arrive when Himalayan terrain would be in 20m snow and China cannot send military across it. She was a brilliant woman and heard advice from her generals.

Moreover, a country's military just cannot cross international border without causing criticism all over the world. She had to bite time and in the meantime about 9 million refugees took shelter in India. India claimed it was a big burden that needs to be resolved. It needed also Russian endorsement.

And in the meantime, Mukti Bahini has been trained and its troops were already fighting inside the country and border. Not only this, Pakistan Army had attacked IA troops creating a good premise for the involvement of IA troops.

Anyway, it is time we patch up things with Pakistan. It is already 50 years since 1971.

Hindutva extremist communal india is a threat to all of us

Bangladesh cannot just sit idle whilst India goes hindutva crazy

This is just reality

Bangladesh may want the easy life, but as hindutva tries to utilise NRC and CAA to target Indian Muslims Bangladesh will be more at risk then Pakistan

The region needs to counterbalance India because India is more deluded then ever

The more India gets humilated by real powers like China
The more it will seek to act big against unarmed Indian Muslims, smaller regional countries

Regardless of what you think of China

China is a effective partner against a unhinged India

The region needs to reach out to China to balance against India

I am talking beyond all of that (more well known story)...

On further look, it was not so precisely her immediately deciding intervention was needed (once refugee load started) and then accepting GHQ advice that later in year was the best time.

Joe and I have had a conversation on it at some length... I.G went to some length to try get things sorted out (international diplomacy) without war....her immediate instinct was not for a war.

I will let Joe say more if he wants...

Yes of course, I am merely pointing out it can be done without need for resort to some usual conspiracy talk and revisionism. In fact it needs both sides to be perfectly honest as possible to make the best sound relationship going forward.

Lol India starting to have nightmares hahhah all Indians neibours hate India. Hight time Indians starting to find problem within and solve it and live like a civilized country or else face the music not only from Pakistan but all other neibours of India. :enjoy:

Their biggest nightmare is Pakistan-Bangladesh becoming friends and allies. They hate Muslims while they fear Muslims.

India desperately want to push their own Indian muslims to Bangladesh. Its the right time for BD to get back on track and act independently. For f sake even Hindutva India cannot get along with only 2nd hindu nation on planet, Nepal.

Rohingya crisis will look like child play compared to what India have planned for Bangladesh.

What most PDF Pakistani brothers hardly get is that the narrative of the following sentences is pushed BY INDIAN media. It is laughable that MEA Indians are trying to put words in Bangladeshi's mouths. Who the f*ck gave them the God-damned rights? Just F*ck off already. We can speak for ourselves just fine.

Isn't that obvious; whom you portray as "development" champion - Sheikh Hasina and Awami League.

it's quite entertaining though

The collaborators who caused the genocide against their own Bangladeshi people have either died or now, been hanged.

This is now a simple question of non-political, non-passionate nature, namely trade.

China -1, India - 0.

Modi administration should think hard before assigning Non-tariff measures to Bangladesh imports to India. And look at what China did, one-upped its game with India.

So trade-wise Bangladesh will go slowly further and further into China sphere. But India should stop its self-appointed slide downward, compared to China, if it deems trade with Bangladesh important. Bangladesh has a choice, India doesn't.

However, there is another story, too. Indira Gandhi was not willing to wait longer, but her generals would not fight sometime in August (?) because the premise was not ready. So, she called the BSF Chief and a BSF company crossed the international border in the East to check the water.

They were captured by the PA troops. I do not know what happened to them. Probably they were returned after December in a PoW swapping.

Yah by this time she had made up her mind intervention was required...no progress made with Nixon admin etc.

Beyond monsoon conditions on ground as you mention, the mountain passes with China in N.E (which close up with snowfall in winter) also played a role in determining best window for it....so August is late summer and so not ideal on the other consideration too.
