Medvedev calls Indo-Russian relations a ‘Privileged Strategic Partnership’

Well this partnership is so after 50 years of hardwork from both the sides. That's a lot of work and worth it forever.

. .
whats putin saying these days on indo-russian ties?

"Please tell your people, I am India’s best friend." Vladimir Putin, President of Russian Federation.

And what reasons does he have to doubt on a relationship built on the firm foundations of 50+years? :azn:

The amount of deals we have with Russians would make all the non-Russian deals look like peanuts. Any reasons for Putin to say anything different from above?

That was before the indian tilt to the US. I think Putins dislike of states is more than his like of india. He will not and does not support american vision of our more region. His view is nearer to chinas

Well Pakistan can let Russia trade with Gwadar, based on a fair price of course.
Secondly Russia can become a powerful nation again, if China and Russia can push SCO is the right direction.
This means adding Pakistan into SCO and forming a political, millitary and economic block.

What can India offer other than economic?
Does India give Russia a political edge?
Does India give Russia a strategic edge?
Does India give Russia a military edge?

Seriously there are a lot of Indians who think India has a lot of offer, when in reality it doesn't have that much.

@desiman
Yes Pakistani-American bilateral relations have plummeted.
USA has proved time after time they are dishonest.

Are you actually saying Pakistan has more to offer than India? lool Bless ya. :)

What's that you can give Russia which we can't?
Plus we can give them lucrative defence market and reliable ally.
And don't think Russians have forgotten Pakistan's role in 1991 yet.
And we also have been their friend for 50+ years. They have even used veto against Pakistan for India. TWICE. :)

.
Lol Russia never sold Pakistan any weapons and same with Israel.

These 2 nations are India best friend and will say no to pak if India tells russia and Israel to

.
This definitely does have some implications for Pakistan.
Although obviously Russian-Indian bilateral relations are pretty good, Russia should also realize there are other options out there with their own advantages.

In other words Russia should try to have bilateral relations with Pakistan and India on par.

I think what putin says stands for more. I think putin is anti american anti west compared to medvedev. Should be interesting how he views indias moves towards america.

I also think medvedev is not the real power in russia and will soon be forgotton after next president election. Med is also a bit naive he was pro what nato was doing in libya initially and putin was against it very early on. This was one of their rare spats in public.

Why should Russia renew retains with Pakistan just because India is starting to have warmer ties with US? Firstly there would be an economice case (or lack there of in this case ) to gain access to extra revenue source in form of Pakistan. But obviously this is flawed logic as Pakistan can't compete in sheer purchasing power like India, a single helicopter, fighter, transport deal is worth more than Pakistan's entire defence budget and warmer Russia-Pakistan ties could risk Indo-Russian ties and Russians could lose A LOT of money, so this has no argument. Second, it could be retaliatory to warmer US-India ties to show disapproval but then for the reasons stated above it just isn't economically, politically, milotatirly etc viable to risk decreased ties with India in favour of Pakostan which can really offer very little in the way of finances, technology, R&D etc.

Why do people assume improved US-India ties have toncome at a detriment to other relationships? It is called DIPLOMACY. And as a global power it is only right India tries to extend her influence as far as possible.

The problem with people here is they think everything is zero sum-game...relations b/w countries are nothing but like child games...you are my friend but if you befriend my enemy i will befriend your enemy...US-Pak relations are good that means US-India relations have to be bad..in the same token US-India relations are good that means India-Russia relations have to be bad....

Guys we all know that China is a potential adversary for India...They back Pakistan which is our arch rival...yes one of of best friend Russia enjoys good relations with China....in the same token India can enjoy good relations with both Russia and US at the same time...grow up from the old age mentality of zero-sum game..this is 21 century...
