Medical student commits suicide after repeated eve-teasing

Lucknow: In a yet shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's capital, the police’ role has come under scrutiny that forced a college going girl to end up her life on Friday evening, post suffering continuous eve teasing, tortures and threats by some youths. Sarika Gupta, a medical student, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to death at her residence in Kalyanpur area.

Family of the 22-year-old girl blames police of keeping a lackluster approach towards the victim’s complaint in the Vikasnagar Police Station.

The aspiring dentist's shattered father said that neither the women helpline division 1090, nor the police helped her daughter to act over the ever teaser who was continuously molesting Sarika since many days.

Her family members further complained that M.B.A student Ajay Vishwakarma was harassing her and had also threatened to deface her by throwing acid on her face.

One of the close relatives of the girl said, “She complained in Vikasnagar Police Station that a person was harassing her but the station officer didn’t receive the FIR though it took a written complaint to let go the issue.”

Police, however, came in action after the girl committed suicide and has filed an FIR against the assailant Ajay Vishwakarma, who is on the run post the incident.

Constable Ghulam Mohammad has been suspended after the complaint of laxity from the family of victim.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Rajesh Kumar said, “I talked to inspector Gudamba and SO Vikasnagar, they had no knowledge of any such complaint.”

He, however assured that the police would probe the matter and take appropriate action against the accused.

Sorry bro i hav't spent enough time in Pakistan to know all this stuff. I am just surprised to know that she complained to police but they did't take any action. Ask any Pakistan member if any girl or woman complain somebody even people beat the hell of the culprit.

Anyone who has spent decent amount of time in the subcontinent knows the why how and when police works.

I guess arguably UP police is worse than most. If this happened in the south, especially in TN there'd be hell to pay for. In the land of JJ no one screws with the police and women protection is taken more seriously than elsewhere. One complaint and those youth would have been beaten the shit out of.

What we need is police reforms, first reaction of the police when they come across such cases is rafa dafa karo yaar baat chit kar ke. We need defined set of steps to follow when such cases are registered and proper follow up.

Good if that's how it's done in Pakistan for every case of eve teasing or sexual harassment. I have no shame in saying that we need to go a long way when it comes to such issues.

Perhaps Uttar Pradesh is not famous enough to be known in Pakistan YET. When will UP-Bihar et al wake up to 21st century? The lawlessness and corruption, caste system, bigotry all exists in the extremes in these states. When we wake up to 2016 last Jan 1st, UP wake up to 1800 from 1799.

On topic :UP is just a shame to this nation .Their GDP is high only because of their 17 crore population .

I have heard about a news that happened in Malabar where some labourers from Bihar UP eve teased Keralite girls in there and authorities in them drove all those immigrant labourers from there .

The suspect is on run.... and police is after him... Ok... but not enough while an innocent forced to hang herself..

Few Questions to the leaders and authorities (No matter where in world)

1. Is this was day that she was raised by her parent?
2. Can anybody, i mean anybody from head of the state to the any level, can bring back a departed soul to their parents?
3. Can anybody of those uniformed personnel can return the days while she was in her mother womb?
4. Despite several complaints, no action taken, why not to hang the one which firstly did not take notice yet a life lost?
5. Why not to bring them uniform personnel before justice as facilitators of such incident being sleeping, corrupt and incompetent yet a life can be saved?

Whether it's India or any where in the world,,,,,, i would say RIP Humanity Alas you would have lived a longer....
