Lieutenant General Theodoros Lagios, General Director for Defence Investments and Armaments of the Greek Ministry of Defence, and Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA, on 25 January signed a contract to provide the armaments for 18 Rafale combat aircraft intended for Greece’s air force. A signing ceremony was held in Athens in the presence of the French Minister for Armed Forces, Florence Parly, and the Greek Minister for Defense, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos.

The new aircraft’s weapons will benefit from the strong commonality with those from the Mirage 2000s and Mirage 2000-5s currently in service in the Hellenic Air Force. Like these, the Rafales will be armed with SCALP cruise missiles, AM39 Exocet anti-ship missiles and MICA multi-mission air-to-air missiles. Additionally, MBDA will also supply Meteor beyond visual range air-to-air missiles.

Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA, said: “The signing of this agreement turns a new page in our relationship with Greece, which we have had for more than half a century. The country was the very first customer of the Exocet missile in 1968, showing great confidence in it and in our predecessor companies. This confidence has been renewed over the years and is being renewed again today. It is our duty to do everything we can in order to continue delivering on this confidence into tomorrow.”

Τurmoil in Turkey: ''Greek Rafale fighter jets with Meteor missiles will crush us''

The Turks will seek to learn the secrets of the Meteor missile through France of from spied gathering information inside Greece
Turks were expected to focus on the weapons that will be installed in the Greek Rafale fighter jets, especially with regard to the METEOR missile, for which a large mobilization of all the Turkish military services is imminent to reveal its secrets.

A Turkish defense systems expert expresses strong skepticism about the supply by the Greek Air Force of METEOR missiles, stating that the Turkish Air Force must be immediately equipped with anti-aircraft systems to deal with the Greek air threat.

"Greece will buy Meteor missiles along with the Rafale fighter jets, as well as Scalp, Mıca and Exocet missiles.

The Scalp, AM-39 and Meteor missiles pose a high threat to Turkey, along with AESA radar on Rafale aircraft during a possible air battle. "Our Tübitak institute has prepared a similar missile", said Turkish expert Anıl Şahin.

"Greece in a possible conflict in the air, having the Meteor missile can take advantage of its superiority against Turkey. These missiles will give the Greek side a very serious advantage in a possible air battle against Turkish aircraft that do not currently have missiles of the same range," said another Turkish expert, Ali Kemal Erdem.

However, what really caused concern in Ankara and in dozens of experts from the many defense institutes is the fact that a new batch of Rafale aircraft by 2025 was received by the Greek Air Force, bringing the number of these fighters to 40, which translates into full Greek air superiority both in the Eastern Mediterranean and over Cyprus.

"The information that the new Greek fighters will have Meteor missiles with immediate delivery of the new fighters from Paris, was met with obvious concern in all Turkish defense forums.

"The reason for the concern is that the Meteor missiles, which have a wide range, may upset the balance between the air forces of the two countries in favor of Greece in a possible intensity", a Turkish publication states.

The Turkish Squadron Commander Osman Başıbüyük, who had served in the Turkish Air Force for many years, said: This missile is an active radar-guided missile, like the AIM-120 AMRAAM medium-range missiles we use in our F-16 aircraft, but it has a longer range than the AIM-120 AMRAAM thanks to the ramjet engine.

It will offer a significant advantage to Greek aircraft in a possible collision.

Now as for the AESA radar of the Greek Rafale, this will detect our F-16s, long before ours do, which will have already been targeted and locked by the Greek fighters, thanks to the range of the Meteor rocket ”.

Başıbüyük stated that in order to maintain the balance with Greece in the air, the new Merlin and Peregrine anti-aircraft systems should be prepared.

"We also need to develop the necessary electronic interference measures by examining French missiles. Here it is important to emphasize that all information about the Meteor rocket in Greece and France is not accessible at all to Turkey.

"In this sense, before testing the corresponding Turkish Göktuğ missile, it is necessary for Turkey to start mass production of the Merlin and Peregrine air defense systems, in order to prevent or even increase the changing balance of power," he said.

Başıbüyük also said that new purchases of similar aircraft from Greece could upset the air balance between the two countries.

The Turkish experts, speaking clearly the language of truth, find that Greece with 18 or 40 Rafale with Scalp, Mıca, Exocet, and Meteor missiles, will dominate the ethers, so they will do everything to learn their secrets, either through France or information gathering from spies inside Greece.

Another sensational hype up story telling...

USA, China, Russia all should sell their useless junk in the flea market and buy the mighty Rafale with Meteor - super doper troper plane and its missiles.

Absolutely. Ditch F-22, F-35, J-20 and buy Rafale fighters. Nothing on earth can beat Rafale fighter.

.
Turkey doesn't even view Greece as threat let alone an effin Rafale lool. If Turkey were to be threatened by anything it would be Greece's upcoming F35s in the next decade and even then Turkey has it's own stealth fighters by then and has taken measures into that and done it's homework. Everyone is going stealth nowadays so 4th generation or 3rd generation fighters will be old news in few years anyways.

This is the definition of patting your back article from the horses own mouth which is even more embarrasing

.
Well Egyptian/UAE Rafale's destroyed 3 Turkish HAWK batteries at Watiya. This has been confirmed with satellite imagery. So the Rafale and its arsenal are no joke, although I would say that this article is more hype than substance.

...although I would say that this article is more hype than substance.
Well, in view of the recent events that have unfolded recently about India being involved with fake websites and fake news media across the globe..., I wouldn't be surprised if this article has a similar background.

. .
its good news

both Pakistan + Turkey will work together to find solutions to Rafale

have to give it to the French though they dropped out of the Eurofighter and created the Rafale

and they also managed exports too

however Qatar + Egypt also operate the Rafale makes life easy

Turkey can get info from Qatar and Pakistan from Egypt

It is fake news.

Turkey is working on overcoming the F35s that Greek will get next decade not Rafales by building the TFX 5th generation stealth fighters

This will lead Turkey to seek more investment in indiginous production and speed up the development of their own fighter jet + missile. Turkey will naturally turn to Pakistan as well as China for this. Perfect opportunity to share technology with one another. Turkey can learn a lot from Pakistans JF-17 technology/Missiles while Pakistan can gain from Turkeys production of high technology sensors.

With this in mind a key supplier of critical production technologies such as manufactering equipment and siliconchips will come from our Chinese friends. In the end this was bound to happen since Turkeys rise.
