QUETTA: Council of Islamic Ideology Chairman Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani has said that the US and Europe were behind the Panama leaks through which they wanted to destabilise Pakistan and derail democracy in order to implement their nefarious designs in the country.

Addressing a public meeting in Sanjawi area of Ziarat on Sunday, he reiterated that madressahs were not involved in terrorism and militancy.

“Western forces have launched a propaganda drive against seminaries in Pakistan to defame them.”

Maulana Sherani, who is also a senior leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, said that seminaries were providing free of cost education to thousands of poor students.

Leader of Opposition in the Balochistan Assembly, Maulana Abdul Wasey, alleged that some NGOs were involved in “anti-peace activities”.

He said that seminaries had never supported militancy and demanded a halt to (police) raids on them.

Maulana Anwarul Haq Haqqani, Maulana Hafiz Mohammad Yousuf and Maulana Sher Jan also spoke on the occasion.

What kind of stupidity is this. Why this guy is lying since the Panama leaks are not specific to any country, person or religion but only tells how the corrupt elite of the world steals money and turns the black money into white.

Why are paying respect to this guy. He is lying. I don't know what significance he has in your country but he is misusing his position and conveying false information. Why all the time west is conspiring against your country when the corrupt elite is responsible for the situation in Pakistan.

I guess the learned Ulema have read a different definition of militancy which does not involve propagating sectarianism, glorifying violence as means to an end, instigating armed struggle against people/state for political changes etc...

These Ulema are themselves associated with running of seminaries so of course they can always be counted upon to defend the seminaries as free of any vices and full of virtues.
While I understand that not all seminaries are militant, we only need to look at Laal Masjid and its supporters to understand that many seminaries are indeed responsible for breeding militancy and terrorism.

Regarding Panama Leaks, when have most of our Ulema ever considered any foreign development without a pinch of good old fashioned conspiracy?

actually i agree with the maulana that it is a western government plot but not that pakistan is the target.

this "leak" looks another way of contributing to regime-change in syria, russia and china... go through the wikipedia page ( who creates these wikis so soon?? ) :
