ISLAMABAD - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is in action again, convincing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to support him in toppling the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
In his well-conceived plan, the JUI-F chief is trying to push Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to give a deadline to the KPK government to control terrorism in the province, failing which the provincial government will be ousted through a joint no-confidence motion.
Maulana conveyed his game plan to Nawaz Sharif to topple the PTI government with the support of PML-N during his recent parleys with the prime minister regarding the presidential poll, sources in JUI-F shared with The Nation.
Though, PML-N has not given nod to JUI-F, Maulana has made two plans to topple the government. As per the first plan, the PTI government would be compelled to maintain the law and order situation in the province. In case of its failure to do so, it will be forced to quit voluntarily.
According to the second scheme, the sources said the Centre will give a task to the KPK government; if it fails to accomplish the task, a joint no-confidence move will be launched against it.
It may be mentioned that Maulana has been leaving no stone unturned to criticise each and every action of the PTI government for the last month. In his recent back-to-back statements, he made all-out efforts to prove that the PTI government in KPK has totally failed.
The sources said that the JUI-F chief, during the recent meeting with Nawaz Sharif, drew his attention towards weak points of the PTI government like jailbreak in Dera Ismail Khan. Maulana in his effort almost convinced Nawaz Sharif that the law and order situation in the province is deteriorating day by day, said the sources. Maulana also told the PM that the situation is so grave that they could lose the province.
When contacted, Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said no such message had been conveyed to the prime minister during the recent meetings.
It would not be out of place to mention here that a month back JUI-F announced to prove its strength to form government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of PML-N, independents and other parties. However, PML-N refused to become part of the move and thwarted the plan.
According to the numerical strength in the province, PTI remained on the top with 34 out of 99 seats. JUI-F won 20 seats, PML-N 12, QWP 7, JI 7 and 11 independents emerged victorious in the May 11 general elections.
When contacted, JUI-F spokesman Jan Achakzai said the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkwa is not satisfactory and the incumbent government has totally failed to control it.
The KPK government is not delivering contrary to its tall claims, he added. To a question, he said PTI should quit the government voluntarily because of its failure on various fronts.
