Ever since Marvel Studios postponed the release of Black Widow due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there's been a lot of speculation about what would happen to the movie (a Disney+ release has been one of the most popular examples of wishful thinking). Well, things have finally been cleared up as Disney has moved the Scarlett Johansson led blockbuster to November 6th, 2020.
That pushes Eternals to February 12th, 2021, the release date which previously belonged to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. That now moves to May 7th, 2021, forcing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to November 5th, 2021.
Are you starting to see a pattern yet?
Yes, the entire Phase 4 slate has essentially been delayed as the Doctor Strange sequel has pushed Thor: Love and Thunder to February 18th, 2022, a lot previously reserved for an untitled Marvel Studios movie. On the plus side, Black Panther 2 is still heading our way on May 8th, 2022 as planned.
As cool as it would have been, Black Widowheading straight to Digital or Disney+ was always unlikely, and this huge release date shuffle honestly isn't that shocking. It's an inevitable result of the global pandemic, and means we now have to wait that little bit longer for all these movies (which was to be expected).
Now, we just have to hope theaters are actually open by November...

Brutal!
The 2020/2021 release schedule has undergone more seismic shifts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic today, with the entire Marvel Studios Phase 4 slate pushed back and Disney completely shaking up its calendar. Now, though, we have some long overdue good news as Captain Marvel 2 has officially been given a release date.
The sequel to the 2019 release has taken the slot previously held by an Untitled Marvel movie on July 29th, 2022, but has been brought forward slightly to July 8th, 2022.
That's right, an upcoming blockbuster has actually got an earlier release date rather than a later one!
As we've mentioned, Thor: Love and Thunderhas taken the February 18th, 2022 slot which was previously reserved for another Untitled Marvel movie, so it's possible that's when Captain Marvel 2 was originally going to be released, and a currently unrevealed film was being lined up for July.
Marvel Studios has had to shake things up in a major way, though, and we now have to hope that Hollywood is able to get back to work sooner rather than later and that theaters can re-open their doors.
If not, these delays are likely to be even more severe. There's currently no word on whether Disney is planning to postpone the likes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision, both of which are supposed to be hitting Disney+ later this year (neither of them have finished shooting).
