Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) said its exports grew 28 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 2,63,068 units in 2022, its highest ever overseas shipments.

The previous record was in 2021, when the company dispatched 2,05,450 vehicles overseas.

The company exports 16 models. In 2022, the highest exported models were Dzire, Swift, S-Presso, Baleno and Brezza. Maruti Suzuki vehicles were popular among customers in Africa, West Asia, Latin America, ASEAN and neighbouring regions, the company said.

Jimny SUV
MSIL also exports Suzuki’s Jimny SUV, which it started manufacturing in India and exporting from January 2021. According to sources, the company has exported 29,316 units of Jimny cumulatively since then. “In 2021-22, 18,486 units were exported and in 2022-23 (till December), 9,195 units were exported,” the sources told businessline.

MSIL, which started exports in 1986-87 with the first consignment to Hungary, today exports to around 100 countries.

“Crossing the two-lakh milestone in exports for the second consecutive year signifies the trust, quality, reliability, performance, and affordability of our products. This achievement further aligns with our strong commitment to the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative to manufacture products to delight global customers,” Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, MSIL, said.

Interestingly, in 2022, the company exported more than double the volume it exported in pre-Covid year (2019) . In 2019, MSIL exported 1,07,190 units, but in 2020 its exports had declined to 85,208 units due to the pandemic and supply chain constraints. MSIL’s exports in 2018 were at 1,13,824 units.

“We are thankful for the support from our parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation to enable us to leverage a wider distribution network across the globe. Further, adding more models to our portfolio helped sustain excitement in the export markets,” Takeuchi added

but the millions of its customers think otherwise..still fetching 2 lacs for 10 years old wagnor or swift, highest % value any resale brand enjoys in the world...i used to drive swift few years back after owning Tata Marina for 8 years, the driving exps was superior with Swift, i sold Marina for 80k and Swift for close to 2 lacs..Marina was in much better condition than Swift but still had a hard time to sale it..i own XUV 500 4 wheel drive, no dobut best car to drive with almost zero maintenance, want to sale it now but finding it difficult to get the right price....point is, ppl are crazy for Maruti car in India

suzuki india stopped sending its cars to GNCAP etc for safety tests.....speaks volumes about its quality assurance. that said , their engines are very dependeable.

No doubt about that but if electric revolution really happens, Sujuki will be history, they don't have any leg in the game.

A car is anyday better than a motorbike in India. Just using a bike in India increases your chance of getting killed in an accident by a significant percentage.

So I'd rather see people drive a tin can alto over a Harley if it means lesser deaths.

Indian operations to play key role in Skoda Auto's entry into Vietnam

Chennai: India is emerging as a key manufacturing hub for the Skoda Group that will venture into the Vietnamese market, the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Ltd said on Wednesday.

"India will play a key role in Skoda Auto's entry into the Vietnamese market. Assembly of the Made-in-India Skoda Kushaq and Slavia model will begin in Vietnam in 2024," the company said on Wednesday.

Close to 25 per cent of suppliers now also export to the Group globally. Exports remain a fundamental pillar of growth. The Group exports to 44 markets globally from India, the company said.

The Skoda Auto Volkswagen was formed following the merger of Volkswagen India Private Limited, Skoda Auto India Private Ltd and Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited.

The combined entity oversees the Indian operations of five brands -- Skoda Auto, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini.

According to Skoda Auto Volkswagen the year 2022 that went by turned out to be good as the company had sold 101,270 units while exports accounted for 33,397 units.

Sales were up 86 per cent year-on-year as compared to 2021.

Continuing with its aggressive product offensive, the Group introduced over 20 model updates through the year across its five brands.

"Our Made-in-India models are rapidly gaining popularity and universal recognition, for their world-class quality, robustness and stylish designs, and have opened new customer segments and markets for us. going by the pace at which the charging infra is developing in india , that day when electric revolution will happen, remains quite far.

the quality of VAG cars, although better than their peers, has degraded quite a lot thats their previous generation.

The two major ports in Chennai collectively facilitated the export of almost 3.64 lakh vehicles to various countries during the calendar year (CY) 2022, recording an increase of 26% year-on-year.

While Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) exported 2.23 lakh cars, mostly those made by Hyundai Motor India, against 1.65 lakh units in CY21, Kamarajar Port Ltd. (KPL) shipped 1.41 lakh vehicles (1.25 lakh).

With the present numbers, the car export volumes from ChPT had crossed the 2,00,000 mark once again, while that of KPL declined from a similar level on account of COVID-19, said a leading logistics provider.

“There has been an increase in car exports from Chennai Port. Some of the automobile firms have signed long-term contracts with us and some are coming up for renewals,” said Sunil Paliwal, chairman, ChPT and CMD of KPL in an interview.

He also said that recently Maruti Suzuki had entered into a pact with KPL to export about 20,000 passenger vehicles annually to various destinations such as Africa, Middle East, Latin America, ASEAN and SAARC regions.

During the year, Nissan and Renault exported 81,000 vehicles from KPL, followed by Ford India 28,400, Isuzu Motors 17,400, Daimler India 5,800, Toyota Kirloskar 105 and others 8,000 units.

In the case of ChPT, Hyundai Motor has a long-term contract and exported about 1,45,300 vehicles followed by Kia Motors India 76,910 and Ford India 555 unit.

Till a few years back, there was stiff competition between ChPT and KPL in terms of exports and the latter had an upper hand. But things changed after the acquisition of KPL by ChPT and due to COVID. Both the ports are now headed by the same IAS officer.

From January to December, 47 Roll-on Roll-off (RORO) vessels visited ChPT. In the month of December, it handled as many as 26,000 cars.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Exports Begin To Latin America

Maruti Suzuki India has begun exporting its recently launched Grand Vitara to various countries, starting with Latin America. The first shipment of Grand Vitara was sent out from Kamarajar Port (formerly Ennore Port) to Latin America. The company plans to export its flagship SUV to over 60 countries across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, ASEAN and surrounding regions.

This new export model joins Maruti Suzuki's already successful line of exported vehicles such as the Dzire, Swift, Brezza, S-Presso and Baleno hatchbacks. In FY2022, the company shipped a total of 2,35,670 units.

Maruti Suzuki India has also taken multiple initiatives to increase its international presence in support of the Indian government's efforts to increase exports from India. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated in a statement, “Expanding the product portfolio for exports has been one of the key pillars of success.”

Maruti Suzuki India has become the export market leader in FY2022 with shipments of 2,35,670 units, overtaking Hyundai Motor India, which shipped 1,29,260 units in the same period. Based on the latest industry export numbers released by apex body SIAM, Maruti Suzuki is well positioned to retain its position as the leading exporter of passenger vehicles in FY2023.
