Marriott now has two hotels under construction in Bangladesh

Marriott International has signed an agreement to bring its luxury JW brand to Bangladesh.

The 700-room JW Marriott Hotel Dhaka will form part of a mixed-use development in the city centre that will also include retail and office components. Facilities will include three restaurants, two bars, a spa with eight treatment rooms, and 2,280m² of meeting space. Construction is already underway.

“With its proposed 700 rooms, this hotel will be one of the largest JW Marriott hotels in Asia and will be a landmark of architectural beauty. The site is very close to the international airport and other important areas and institutions in Dhaka,” commented Md Nurul Islam, Chairman of the hotel’s owner, Jamuna Group.

JW Marriott Dhaka will become the second Marriott hotel in the city, following the Courtyard by Marriott Dhaka, which is also under construction is expected to open in 2014.

Marriott will certainly rebrand Dhaka as well as Bangladesh. By building two hotels in BD Marriott is placing its full trust on the future of Bangladesh. The decision will open ways for other hotel and non-hotel enterprises of the west tomove into this country.
