A total of 15 Philippine young people and one U.S. citizen, attempting to land on China's Huangyan Island, were intercepted by two motor boats driven by Chinese maritime police on June 12, as the Philippines celebrated its Independence Day.

Those people belong to the Kalayaan ATIN ITO, a local organization, which announced its members' arrival at the area approximate to the island around 7:30 on the Sunday morning.

But the fishing boat they took was spotted and intercepted by two motor boats from the Chinese maritime police who asked the interlopers to go back. The confrontation there lasted for four consecutive hours.

At 11: 00 a.m., five Philippine citizens onboard trying to swim to Huangyan Island, to place their country flag as well as UN flag, were stopped by the Chinese maritime police. Two Philippine citizens swimming to the surrounding area of the island raised their country flag before they left at 12:30 a.m.

Those people on the fishing boat returned and reached the Philippines at 3:00 a.m. the next day.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated that the Huangyan Island is an integral part of China's territory and any actions that China launches there are within the country's sovereign rights for legitimate concerns. China is confident that it can uphold its lawful rights and interests from being encroached, the spokespeople from the ministry stressed.

Unlike the Philippines sea murderers who killed an unarmed elderly fisherman from Taiwan, China's maritime police handled the illegal attempt professionally. In the end, nobody got hurt other than, perhaps, some national pride.

Filipinos, American sail to Scarborough Shoal; harassed by China

A group of mostly Filipino protesters sailed to Philippine-claimed Scarborough Shoal (Panatag Shoal) in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) on Sunday, Independence Day, but Chinese vessels tried to stop them.

The group of 15 Filipinos and one American sailed to the shoal from Zambales on Saturday afternoon and arrived Sunday morning using a fishing boat.

They wanted to protest China’s claims over the shoal, said lawyer Joy-Ban-eg, co-convenor of the group of Kalayaan Atin Ito.

Kalayaan Atin Ito was the same group that sailed to Pag-asa Island (Thitu) in the South China Sea in December last year.

Ban-eg said that since then they had joined the international group Sea Access by International Law (SAIL), which promotes legal and peaceful resolution of maritime disputes worldwide. The American who joined the trip was a member of the international group.

The plans of Faeldon did not push through after President Benigno Aquino III told him to abort his plans because of ongoing negotiations.

When they arrived at the shoal at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Chinese vessels — two speedboats and three Coast Guard ships — tried to stop them.

By 11 a.m., five of the members, including Ban-eg, decided to swim to reach the entrance of the lagoon, where the planned to raise the Philippine flag. The Chinese kept stopping them.

They were not able to raise the Philippine flag in the lagoon as planned but two of the members were able to reach the entrance and wave a flaglet.

By noontime, the group decided to return to the mainland. Chinese Coast Guard escorted them out of the shoal.

Scarborough is 124 nautical miles off the coast off Zambales, well within the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone. It has been a site of a standoff between the Philippines and China in 2012.

The Philippines is pursuing a case to challenge China’s aggressive claims to most of the South China Sea and is anticipating a decision from the arbitration tribunal in The Hague.

A sharp comparison between elegant public security force vs barbarian behavior. Those illegals must apologize to our martine police for interrupting a great Sunday morning. Our officers' human right of enjoying Sunday is much more important than those illegals' fake national pride grounded upon colonial submission.

The two sides held stand-off for four hours. It looks like USA tried to intervene but PLAN and PLAAF intercepted with missile lock-on and forced USA to stand down and abandon their Pinoy puppets to Chinese law enforcement.

The article doesn't say anything about any US ships or any lock on. What are you talking about???

Here's the article you conveniently don't post:

"MANILA (Reuters) - Chinese coast guard vessels prevented a Philippine nationalist group from planting a Filipino flag on a rocky South China Sea outcrop, the group said on Monday, the latest territorial standoff between the two countries.

The incident between the coast guard and the Kalayaan Atin Ito (Freedom It's Ours) group took place at the disputed Scarborough Shoal on Sunday, just as foreign ministers from Southeast Asian countries and China prepared for a meeting in Kunming to discuss territorial rows in the hotly contested waters.

Beijing claims almost the entire South China Sea and the move by the Filipino nationalists comes as the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague prepares to deliver a ruling on a complex case brought by Manila that could dent China's sweeping sovereignty claim.

"They refused to allow us to get near Scarborough Shoal," Joy Ban-eg, leader of the Kalayaan Atin group, told reporters. "There was a standoff until we decided to leave."

Ban-eg said 15 Filipinos and an American joined the 16-hour voyage to the Scarborough Shoal to mark the Philippines' 118th Independence Day and to find out if local fishermen could freely go there.

The shoal, seized by China after a three-month standoff in 2012, is a bone of contention for the Philippines and its president-elect, Rodrigo Duterte, has vowed not to give way over the right of his country to sail there freely.

attempt to plant the flag comes after Duterte himself pledged during his election campaign to do the same, but on China's manmade islands in the Spratlys, using a jet ski.

The wooden-hulled fishing boat came close to shoal when China's coastguard blocked them and ordered them to go back to the Philippines, the group said.

Five Filipinos jumped on the water and tried to swim to the shoal but were chased down by Chinese sailors on rubber dinghies who sprayed them with water and tried to take their cameras and bag, which contained a Philippine flag, they said.

Philippine defense and military officials declined to comment on the incident. Beijing stressed that the shoal belonged to China.

"The Scarborough Shoal has been China's territory since ancient times," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said at a regular briefing in Beijing.

"We urge the Philippines to respect China's sovereignty and refrain from taking provocative actions."

Where's all the missile lock on stuff you are talking about???

Yes, that's a huge difference from the state-sanctioned murderers of the sea called Coast Guard.

Perhaps we treat them way too nicely when they break the law and violate our sovereign maritime space.

The fact that the filipino was able to reach there still show China's lack of security on her properties at sea.

The fact that you need four hours to stop 5 Filipinos is not a good sign imo. China is still too soft on these people. At least arrest them, let them sit in the cell for five days than make their family pay for their release.

Cmon people , scarbourough is 100 miles from Philippines and 600 miles from China clearly located with in 200 miles EEZ.

This is Blatantly territorial grabbing of CHina and it must be STOP.

Yes, I believe Mainland is too soft on them. Even my Taiwan province goes harder on them and it pays off.

It took longer in this case to send them back because China did not want to give any excuse of bad-treatment. In the end, they failed and China has proven its Omni-presence in the area.

That's a gain, in my view. If it was not civilian attempt but PH Coast Guard or something, the response would be sterner, I am sure.

But still, I would like the payment part. Perhaps charge them and send the money to the elderly Taiwan fisherman's family as a sweet gift from the Mainland.

Poor people like the Filipinos do not care about their lives as it's not worth much. However, they care about $$ so it's better to hit these guys where it hurts. Charge them $20,000 USD per head and soon , no one will come and cause trouble.

This can be applied to foreigners who cite indepedence movement in China and the ones who misbehave badly. Most foreigners are cash strapped also. Thus when they are arrested, a good minimum $5000 USD fine is better than serving a few days in jail with meals and a a bed.

.
15 Pinoys boys and girls, and an American adult, guess who is the mastermind?

May be you can say this is actually a plot against the new incoming pinoy president, who is well known for his distaste for American. To make his attempt to reconcile with the Chinese more bumpy by creating more incidents.
